  1. So the past couple days I've been playing a perception only insane playthrough... and actually, I'm surprised how well spears are holding up so far.
It certainly wouldn't be viable with nightmare speed. Zombie speed is unchanged. Rushing the perk books, level 4+ javelin master and level 7+ perception makes it actually quite strong imo.

I actually think spears could become *over*powered in a21 funnily enough... we shall have to see. I can't wait.

I think that was based on them aiming for A21 to be out in 2022. I'm hoping maybe that A21 is now seemingly still a couple of months away that it'll allow them to get bandits in for A21 instead of A22

that's very hopeful of you. It's been stated that bandits will not be in a21.

There is no replacement for the quality loss on repair system:

    - Players don't need to keep looted weapons anymore (only for selling a bit)

    - Players don't craft tools/weapons anymore

    - Late game is affected most by this

I think the learn by reading update will change this a bit. Higher quality items will be rarer, and getting the crafting skill to make level 5 steel tier equipment will take much longer. With the fact you won't be able to go straight from lvl 5 stone to lvl 5 steel tools will make it so much more incremental crafting is done. Theoretically.
This wouldn't affect keeping weapons as such, but it would affect keeping weapon *parts* as opposed to selling them, as you'll need to craft more.
We will have to see what loot is like, but I think crafting tools and weapons will be more important in a21.

if sexy rex is removed i don't think i'll bother playing a21

that's a bit of a kneejerk reaction, no? even if it's well balanced you won't even give it a chance?

but anyway we could still be barking up the wrong tree entirely. I do like the idea of sexual tyrannosaurus being cut as a perk and distributed across all relevant other weapon perks. Because it always makes strength somewhat necessary imo

edit: but I don't really think that would be relevant under the heading Player HUD Changes

  5. Damn lol you guys are smart, I suspect this might be yet again solved too quickly for Roland's liking 😛

Remember this is likely to complete the C bullet point. What could sexy trex -> UI (?) mean that could start with C?

    • Player HUD changes
      • Danger Meter added to show danger level of biomes and POIs
      • C

Could this be a hint on Radiation Zones? Maybe the "danger meter" references a Geiger Counter

ooooh I like that idea, it doesn't seem too far a stretch from danger meter to geiger counter.

I hope we get more fresh minds in here though because I now can't unsee dane jar meat err. What if it's not that?

  7. Trying to work out what that mineral/ore looking thing is... Did a reverse image search and it looks a lot like this, which apparently is known as Peacock ore
    spacer.png

"Bornite, also known as peacock ore, is a sulfide mineral with chemical composition Cu₅FeS₄ that crystallizes in the orthorhombic system"

Is this relevant? I have no clue

The baseball picture might be indicating "error". The player is Derek Jeter.

Speaking of RWG, have there been any notable changes to it for a21? Maybe more river stuff instead of those perfect S stamps we have now? Or anything done to make wilderness POIs placement/roads better?

I suspect we might be waiting for Teragon tbh

  9. In the very beginning of A21 announcements, I jumped on the negativity bandwagon. I have over 2k hours in the game and have played since A16. I thought some of the changes sounded like a bad idea on paper, so I joined in with the negativity.
However since I've tried to hold off any judgement of the new mechanics until I can see how they feel myself, I'm actually a lot more optimistic about A21. The kneejerk reactions from some are extremely strong, and I would urge people to take a step back and just wait to see how the game actually plays.

From what I see in the video that was posted regarding the fire hazard, there's a locked door on the other side of the fire as well (that unlocks/opens when you turn off the fire), so I'd imagine you'd be taking constant damage over time if you try to break the door down without dealing with the fire first.

EDIT: Do you play with multiplayer/friendly fire settings set to "no kill"? If you do, fire from sources like molotovs don't do damage to you. If you have it set to any other setting like Strangers only, you'll notice the fire debuff does actually do damage over time

It would be interesting to see if the new fire hazard follows the same behavior for molotovs with this setting or not

Then simply break the door whilst not standing in the flames and run through. Unless the flames can't be hit through, but that would feel kinda wrong.

I'm suggesting simply the damage over time fire debuff isn't enough for the fire hazard to act as an actual obstacle, as you can just drink to put out the fire.

  11. Made an account to ask one thing, which I haven't seen asked yet (though this thread is gigantic so I may have missed it)

With regards to the interactive fire hazard...
"Flaming broken gas pipes blocking the way"

Having played a lot of Darkness Falls, I must say I am quite used to being set on fire. What is stopping someone from just running through the flame and drinking water immediately? It doesn't seem like much of an obstacle. Will it do damage as well as causing the on fire buff?
Whilst it does look quite cool, I can't help but feel it's just another one of those "make the player walk into a zombie ambush" kinda POI design features. You go to turn it off and oh my! Zombies are falling from the ceiling, who could have guessed?

Regarding the more controversial changes, I'm trying my very best to reserve judgement until I play A21 and see how it actually feels to play.
