    NEW

    Bug Description:

    When being in a closed space, e.g. horde base or POIs and there are too many "spit" particles from cop or mutated zombies or Molotov cocktails, the game crashes.

    Depending on the game options, the Stack trace is different E.g. when Occlusion is enabled, it will show an error in regards to occlusion.

    Troubleshooting done:

    - I already tried setting particles to 0% via in game options, but it didn't help.
    - Also tried disabling AMD FreeSync for the game which also didn't help.

    - Updating or downgrading AMD GPU driver didn't help.
    - Verifying game files didn't help either.
    - Tried using GLCore (OpenGL) as well as Vulkan, with both the game dropped from 120 to 1-5 FPS in 2-3 second intervals constantly and was so choppy it is unplayable.
    - Reinstalled game, clearing out all registry entriesm game files and settings.

    - Tried removing GPU driver, cleaning it with DDU and reinstalling it.

    - Ran Microsoft Windows repair tools.

    - Reinstalled vcredist.

    - Reinstalled/repaired DirectX installation.

    - Disabled numerous video settings.

    - Ran game in windowed mode.

    - Tried running in non-exclusive as well as exclusive full screen.

    - Changed game resolution.

    - Ran game as administrator.

    - Did BIOS update.

    Detailed steps to reproduce the bug:

    1) Build small room base or be in small room in POI or stand in a corner

    2) Spawn mutated zombie and/or cops

    3) Let the zombies spit

    4) Throw Molotov cocktail while the green spit particles are visible in front of you

    5) Sometimes it doesn't crash immediately like this, but needs a few tries

    6) Crash can be provoked faster by pausing/unpausing in SP while spit and molotov fire particles are visible

    Actual result:

    The whole system freezes for a few seconds, then the game crashes, with d3d11 error 0x887A0005, causing AMD driver timeout.

    Sometimes crashes without any spit, when only using Molotov cocktail.

    Sometimes crashes when there's only spit, without using Molotov cocktail.

    Quests at Tier 4 and higher failing constantly, because of cops or mutated zombies causing crash when spitting in confined space which leads the quest to fail.

    Forgot to mention, I also replicated the bug in A20 stable as well as A21.2 b6 experimental.

    My system runs on stock settings, now overclocking/undervolting.

    I also disabled the XMP profile during troubleshooting.

    Additionally to cleaning all 7 Days to Die settings, folders and registry entries, I also deleted all DirectX & AMD cached/ temp files

    Meant to say "no overclocking/undervolting"
    In addition, I also tried deleting all cached Unity files

    @Beelzybub

    Thanks for reaching out!

    I also generated new maps when testing with A20 stable and the latest A21 experimental, but deleted those files when reinstalling the game. Those were 8k maps if I remember correctly.

    On Navezgane, I also encountered the bug, but haven't tried again since the fresh install.

    However, this is the map_info.xml for the recent generated map in version A21 b324:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <MapInfo>
      <property name="Scale" value="1" />
      <property name="HeightMapSize" value="7168,7168" />
      <property name="Modes" value="Survival,SurvivalSP,SurvivalMP,Creative" />
      <property name="FixedWaterLevel" value="false" />
      <property name="RandomGeneratedWorld" value="true" />
      <property name="GameVersion" value="Alpha.21.0.324" />
      <property name="Generation.Seed" value="DriverTimeout" />
      <property name="Generation.Towns" value="Many" />
      <property name="Generation.Wilderness" value="Default" />
      <property name="Generation.Lakes" value="Default" />
      <property name="Generation.Rivers" value="Default" />
      <property name="Generation.Cracks" value="Default" />
      <property name="Generation.Craters" value="Default" />
      <property name="Generation.Plains" value="6" />
      <property name="Generation.Hills" value="6" />
      <property name="Generation.Mountains" value="3" />
      <property name="Generation.Snow" value="7" />
      <property name="Generation.Forest" value="7" />
      <property name="Generation.Desert" value="4" />
      <property name="Generation.Wasteland" value="2" />
    </MapInfo>

    I will test again on Navezgane later when I get around to it and post the log here.

    I just tried to reproduce it using Navezgane, but it doesn't happen there anymore after the fresh install.

    I tried for 15 minutes, constantly throwing Molotov cocktails and spawning so many cops and mutated zombies in a small room that my framerate dropped to 2 FPS. Also, did pausing/unpausing very often in quick succession and moving the mouse extremely fast. The combination of all this would usually cause a crash very quickly.

    Seems that, as of most recently, the issue only occurs with RWG maps.

    And it seems to happen for any RWG map as it also happened when my brother hosted a game with a different RWG map and I reproduced the issue on other RWG maps in A20 and A21 exp.

    I encountered this issue a few times with a similar setup. Without reinstalling or altering the saves in any way, running the game with Vulkan "fixed" the issue compared to Direct X11.  I say fixed as the drivers did not crash which kept the game from crashing.

    I do not know if The Fun Pimps are responsible since when I run into the issue, AMD reports a driver crash which then leads to a game crash.  I have had this issue for about a month now.
