Hi @ThumpieBunnyEve, The Linux dedicated server is not an app that you can use by pressing "play".  In order to use the Linux Dedicated Server, you would need to switch to desktop mode, and configure your dedicated server through the text files and launch through command line.

Because the steam deck desktop isn't designed to be used as a regular linux distribution, you may need to do some things like set a password for root, and possibly create a new user with appropriate permissions set.
On the instructions above, you should be able to skip to step 5 because there is a gui.
I wouldn't recommend running a linux dedicated server from a steam deck.  We haven't tested the capabilities of the hardware, while theoretically possible, the nature of a battery operated dedicated server and the slower networking speed may not be an ideal candidate.  I did find a youtube video detailing the process of turning the steam deck into a home server...

    Hopefully this helps.

I've got it running 6 person server running on steam deck. in fact im about to host right now for the stream session they are doing.  I did learn i have to run it from Desktop mode as you said.   i ran it from a different steam-account who doesn't own the game, but is in the family network.  Thankfully it has a different app-id so this works well.  the point im at now, is trying to see if i can run it as steam CMD    or as yet a -third- user, so i can run -both- my 7d2d servers from the steam deck.   as we have the Stream-server save i host.   and my family-friends save i also host.   once i started hosting from the steam deck, my friends said its running the smoothest and least laggy they've ever seen!  so im very pleased the steam deck is out preforming my windows pc (which isn't too shabby but still doesn't have ddr5 memory like steam deck).

dedicated server doesn't need a real steam account for downloading and running. Both use the anonymous user account of steam.

Case in point: I have never needed any credentials on my dedicated server or do any configuration work for steam access, but the server still makes steam connections when starting up. And it is obvious at download since the usual ways is to log in as anonymous user to download a new version.
