  • Black screen crash on game launch

    Coldfusion
    • Version: 1.0

Summary: After launching the game from Steam or with the launcher, the game shows me a black screen with the white beta text on the bottom and freezes. After 15 seconds it closes the program automatically. Everything happens before the logo shows up.

    Game Version: (V1.0 b309)

    OS/Version: Windows 11  (10.0.22631) 64bit

CPU Model: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor  (cores: 16)

    System Memory: 32694 MB

GPU Model and VRAM: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (12012 MB)

    GPU Driver: Latest version 555.99

    Screen Resolution: 2560 x 1440

Did you wipe old saves? (Yes/No)

    Yes

Did you validate your files? (Yes/No)

    Yes

Are you using any mods? (Yes/No)

    No

    EAC on or off?

I tried both, the current logs are on

    Status: NEW

    Bug Description:

    I tried the following:

    • compatibility mode with Win 7 and 8
    • running as administrator
    • reinstall a game completely (deleting all saves and everything)
    • install the latest alpha (that is working perfectly fine) and then update to v1.0
    • Reinstalling the Windows completely and then installing the game on a clean environment

All of these produce the same crash with the same log file and after every try, I verified the game files with Steam.

My brother has an Identical PC except he has a 4070 Ti and for him works perfectly.

Detailed steps to reproduce the bug:

    1) Launching the game

    Actual result:

    Black screen and crash

    Expected result:

    The game starts

Nvidia has had a lot of issues with game crashes in drivers over the last couple of months. Their latest driver package released a few days ago is supposed to fix it.

    GeForce Game Ready Driver | 556.12 | Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11 | NVIDIA

Perform the installation, opt-out of the GeForce Experience bloatware, and choose Custom Installation options so that you can select the "Perform a clean installation" option.  Reboot a couple of times and try again.

I would also suggest that you follow through with excluding the client and save folders from security software if you have not already. Might not be a bad idea to validate the files a few times afterwards either.

    Everyone who has this problem!!!
I fixed the problem with switching from Windows 11 pro N to Windows 11 pro.

That makes sense. The N is a gimped version of Windows that is missing a good number of features. It is too bad the system details cannot differentiate different builds.

I imagine it is a lot like the Insider builds where core features the game needs to use are unstable or missing so the game usually doesn't work on those either.
