Morning all,
First post, figured I would share some knowledge.
For several years I have been hosting a dedi server with a small group of friends and pretty much build bases together as a team.
The entire time playing, using the land claim block so that we can manipulate the workbenches/forges etc., there has not been a successful addition to the game that allows people to team up and use a base as a team. It is either 1 person gets to move equipment or nobody does.
I have searched and searched for years on and off to see if there has been an update and no there has not. I suppose there may be a mod out there that addresses this, but I run no mods. The only "mod" that I do with my server is change stack sizes in the xml files (and i re-added the log spikes...because i like them).... i tried re-adding the bottles and cans, but that turned into a nightmare and just wanted to play... also tried adding re-usable bullet casings (didnt work/gave up)
ANYWAY...
(take precautions to save your files in case of OOPS)
On a dedicated server:
In the serverconfig xml file, there is this line:
<property name="LandClaimSize" value="X"/> <!-- Size in blocks that is protected by a keystone -->
This is where I found that multiple people can stack land claim blocks and use the entirety of their joint bases completely.
For this to work:
Save/Shut down the server
change the
value="30" to value="0"
Click save
Restart the server and have everyone involved with the base place their land claim block at the center of the base somewhere (in the floor, ceiling, under a campfire whatever)
Everyone log off
Save/shutdown the server
Change the value="0" to "30" or whatever dimension you plan on the maximum your joint base to be (I have pretty large bases so my default is 50) (50 is 101 blocks x/y/z)
Click save
Restart the server
Everyone should now have the capability of picking up devices within the shared structure (land claim AOE)
I have toyed around with the setting:
<property name="LandClaimDeadZone" value="X"/> <!-- Keystones must be this many blocks apart (unless you are friends with the other player) -->
and found it does nothing... I mean really... I set it to 0, 100, -100 and have seen absolutely no effect within the game. Its currently set to 0 and I honestly think this is broken code. The reason it is broken is revealed by a simple innerwebz search for anything to do with land claim blocks and people sharing bases. The friends/ally setting in a game server list does not resolve the land claim issue nor does it offer a solution to people actually being allies. It is quite possible that I am misinterpreting the definition, but as stated, it is apparent THAT is the line of code that should control how land claim blocks are placed.
So, take it with a grain of salt.
Thanks for listening.
I hope that people out there that want to completely share a structure find this useful.
I hope that TFP dev team adds a function to the 'LCB team play' that allows this function within the game like so many other games where making a team/faction/clan whatever allows for players to join up in a permanent sense. The way it is now, every time someone joins/leaves they have to manually be added.... there should be permanence (add/kick player from "team")
***reason for edit: added "Click save" to above instructions***
