    So far whenever I place a storage chest, or sleeping bag my inventory is not affected on the toolbelt. For example I placed a single storage chest and still had it in my inventory. I placed it again the same thing happened. This also happened with the sleeping bag and only happens when I place items.

    You have creative mode on. Turn that off in the game setting and that will no longer happen. This was a feature for POI creators, that will be removed next release and limited to the Prefab Editor Only.
