  • Game crashes on entering sound setting / joining groups in game on Hyper-V based Virtual Machine.

    Yeetgor

Summary: Client running on a Hyper-V VM experiences crashes when trying to enter sound settings or joins in-game group (questing, arrows to members)

    Game Version: A20.6 (b9)

    Platform: Steam

    OS/Version: Windows

CPU Model: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

    System Memory: 32GB

GPU Model and VRAM: AMD Radeon 5700XT 8GB

    Screen Resolution: 1920x1080 (FullHD)

    Video Settings: Doesn't matter

Game mode: MP client / SP (probably everywhere)

    VM allocated resources:

    CPU: 4 cores
    Memory: 8GB

GPU Model and VRAM: Same as host, but can allocate up to 50% (so 4GB)

Did you wipe old saves? No (A20.6 (b9) was the first version I played on)

Did you start a new game? Yes

Did you validate your files? Yes

Are you using any mods? No

    EAC is OFF

    Status: NEW

Bug Description: Whenever client running on VM tries to enter sound settings or accepts join request to group the game crashes. Otherwise, the game runs perfectly fine. Client can run, fight, build, enter menus, accept and complete quests, trade etc.

After posting on this forum with this issue, one of the mods (meganoth) pinpointed the most probable point of failure - "routine called Epic.OnlineServices.RTCAudio.RTCAudioInterface:SetAudioOutputSettings"

Full description and troubleshooting can be found under this forum topic.

Detailed steps to reproduce the bug:

    1) Set up virtual machine via Easy-GPU-PV scripts available here

    2) Run the VM and install steam and the game as normal

    3) Run the game and enter sound settings OR join any MP game and accept group invitation

    Actual result: Game crashes.

Expected result: Client can modify sound settings and join groups.

Forgot to mention in retrace steps, that you need a Parsec account to be able to connect to it the intended way.

If at any step you encounter issues with it, please ask me for help (I went through a lot with it ;) )
