I can tell you this, after saving some clips I've noticed the problems are caused by the auto-save feature.
Sometimes the autosave goes wild, like saving before entering a building, saving after entering the building, and this causes some massive lag.
Edit: I say it's the auto-save, but I could be wrong, it's a diskette that appears on the top left of the screen.
