Having the same problem. I found 2 things that have helped me and maybe they'll help you too:
1. Disable Vsync (I have no idea why this would improve things, my screen is 165Hz)
2. MINIMIZE Steam window. (Once again, I have no explanation. When the Steam window is shown (even behind the game) I get 30-40 fps. When I minimize Steam, it jumps back to 100+ fps.

I'm having the same issue. Very similar situation to OP, we are on Vanilla client (no AMP, no mods) and Linux host. Host crashes when anyone attempts to join. Joining via Steam crashes in every scenario. IP joining still crashes if client is joining from WAN. We have tried all the same things as the OP (Proton vs. native build, etc.). Network Workaround also does not fix it.
The only workaround is to join from a machine on the same LAN using the "connect IP" option. All other options fail.
Never was an issue before. Started happening since A21.

These are all solid suggestions. I would add that almost all gun sounds could be improved.

Ouch. I know how you feel. Not as bad as your situation, but I had a storage base separated, but close to the horde night base. Inexplicably, one of the chests inside the storage base was destroyed on horde night. It had all my dukes in it, over 120k. Same feeling as you, kinda killed the playthrough. I'm taking a break now, but have decided the next time I play, I'll backup the save before each horde night.

I agree. Some are hilarious, too. My kids call the tourist one the "burping zombie"

So normally 7D2D runs fine. I've got a GTX 1660 Super and normally get around 80-100 FPS on medium settings. When mining ethereum, however, frame rate drops to 8-10 fps. This issue persists with both mining utilities I've tried: lolminer and t-rex, and both are updated to the latest versions, so I believe the issue is with the game and not with the mining software. I'm also running the latest version of 7D2D (Alpha 20).
Is there anything else I should try?

I agree. Alpha 18 was just more fun with the loot progression. It was cool when, though not likely, you could find any weapon at any time. It also felt more realistic. It just makes less sense that the contents of chests changes from primitive to advanced over time.
I'm hoping that Alpha 20 brings us a balance between the loot in 18 and 19.
