    I'm pretty sure the place I've most often found welding torches in v5.x has been in Working Stiffs trucks, but that has failed me in my current game (well, I did find my second welding torch of the game in a truck, but that was on day 56 or so, so not really that helpful. But it does mean they can still be found in trucks, at least).

    I'm surprised not a single trader has had welding torches so far in my game. With Charismatic Nature 5 I should be seeing their full inventories, I think, and I've found at least one of each trader, except for Caitlin (aside for the lathe, they don't seem to have any workstations either, so I couldn't just buy a cement mixer).

    I think this game could be the first ever DF game I've had where I might be able to make all five radiation-ready mods. I have four so far.

    Granted, that's more because the cost of crafting them has been lowered than because the fibers are particularly common.

     

     

  2. Started a new game for 5.1.0-DEV-B1.  I've found six traders so far and got Charismatic Nature maxed around level ... 30 or so. I'm level 55 now and I've never seen a welding torch at a trader (they do seem to have the other workstation tools). Never found any in containers either. I did finally get one when I was level 34 from a zombie drop.

    I'm playing an extremely casual game without bloodmoons, so lack of concrete and other stuff locked behind welding torches hasn't been too painful, but in a normal game it would have been a tad problematic.

     

    Am I just extremely unlucky or are welding torches that rare now?

    You can move the "PEP-POIExpansionPack" folder out of the "Mods" folder if you only want vanilla A21 POIs (the DF specific POIs are in another folder, so they'll still be included by the RWG).

    Portal Power sources, where are they. I thought they were at teh demon portals so I spent half a day basically killing all the respawns and didnt get anything before I accidently broke the portal.

    I have a feeling that I am missing them somewhere

    You find Razor by doing Scout quests until an Opening Trade Routes quest becomes available from her ("Do you have any other work" option), Razor sends you to Eve after you've done his quests and Eve sends you to Anna who has the final quest.

     

    When I did Anna's quest in ... B26 or so and returned to her, I got a portal source from her as a reward. I don't think you get it from the portal anymore (unsure since I couldn't get to the portal at all; the last doors in the bunker didn't work, maybe because I had updated from B25 to B26 without starting a new game. I could still finish the quest, though).

     

    Technically, you can use Anna, Razor and Eve as traders from day one, but that's due to something that can't be disabled by modders; Khaine has said they're not supposed to be used as traders.

    entityclasses.xml. There's a ton of loot bag entries, but doing a search and replace of "<property name="TimeStayAfterDeath" value="1200"/>" seems to only affect the right entries (I use "3600" instead of "1200" so far).

    hm. Could be. I always max those two as soon as I can (within limits; I normally start out taking the Laborer class first), so I don't really know how the middle/late game is without them.

     

    Edit: I'm not sure if this is much to go by, since he started with a very early V5 version and then upgraded along the way, even when it was recommended to start a new game, (I don't know which version he ended with), but in GNS' recent playthrough he seemed to get very good loot from horde nights and I think he had both Quality Joe and Wasteland Treasures maxed, at least the last few horde nights.

    Odd.  Put on Dev Cheat +200 loot goggles (loot stage 900+) and re-re-did horde night - only yellow drops.... and all crap (early game) stuff

     

    VERY Odd... so I took off any mod that gave loot +'s (lucky goggles/rabbit's foot) etc and re-re-did horde night in the forest biome this time - until I got down to loot stage 664

    Then had some blue/orange loot bags... but rare.

     

    Anyone seen anything like this before??

    A game overflow error where too much loot stage causes the loot table to wrap back to the beginning again???

     

    /A21.1 (B16 Stable) - DF B25)

    Not quite as severely as you, but in ... B27, I think, I had a horde night when I was level 60+, loot stage 322 or so (maxed Quality Joe and Wasteland Treasures), and I play 120 minute days so the zombies actually stopped spawning before the night was over (i.e. I killed every single one), which made for a lot of bags (I've changed their expiration timer to be much longer), and everything was very early game stuff. Stone tools, etc., and the highest level drop was level 22.  It seemed very off, and very much not worth doing.

    Some wandering hordes seem to be affected too, where every single drop is very low level. Though, of course, since there are few fewer zombies in wandering hordes, it's a bit more likely to just be RNG.

     

    I think I've had two blue bags in hundreds of hours of V5, no orange ones (one of the blue ones did have two Black Sky, though). And none from horde nights.

    hm. They should be there from day 1, and they have the floating trader icon so they're hard to miss.

     

    I haven't been to all the traders in B28 yet, but in the past few updates, they've been something like this:

    Rekt's: Inside the main building, ground floor, near the outer wall on the right side.

    Jen's: First tent to the right of the right main entrance.

    Hugh's: Outdoors, right side, near the back wall and helipad.

    Bob's: Outdoors, right by the helipad.

    Joel's: Room by the outer wall, right corner corner of the compound by the front gate.

    I don't know if Caitlin has a scout still, but I would guess so (maybe where she was in A20 when it was Jen's compound; inside the tall building on the ... second floor or so).

     

    I don't think you'd have overlooked all of them, so maybe there's something wrong with your install.

    The screenshot in the post you replied to shows they're using A21 (b324), which can likely cause issues. That's why I mentioned client build.

    Do you mean you're getting a 'no traders' message right at the start when you should have a marker for one?

    I haven't had that in any of the maps, which is about 40 or so now, I've generated for A21 DF, so I'd probably try a different map. If you're getting it there too, I think there's something wrong with your install.

     

    If trader POis or trader NPCs are just outright missing then it also seems like it would be a problem with the installation (I'm assuming you're on A21, that is. In A20 it was possible to generate maps without traders if you turned cities and towns off).

    Impact Driver is not happy about this.

    I don't think I've used a ratchet since B23 or so, but it didn't seem very fast then (granted, the impact driver is no speed demon either). Is it really faster than the laser multitool?

  12. oh, I had a regular bear show up around day 10 by my pine forest base. First one I've seen in all my time in A21, so maybe that's a B27 thing?

    I got all nostalgic...

     

    I don't know if it's a vanilla thing, but I barely ever see anything else than rabbits and chicken (of the nonhostile critters. There are plenty of wolves, snakes, etc.). Deer is like one every 30 days, at most. My animal settings are all on default.

    Thanks. I kind of thought that was the case, and I'd prefer to play the way it's intended (fortunately, B27 does seem kinder with mastery books; 2 in two air drops so far, by day 22. With maxed Quality Joe and Wasteland Treasures).

  14. Something I've been wondering about for a bit:

     

    In V4 I never used the DF quest NPCs as traders, but I'm watching GNS' current DF series and was reminded that you can. Razor and Eve don't have anything unusual that I've seen, but Anna has mastery books (and the portal thingy), and since mastery books have been hard to come by in V5 (maybe easier in B27? I got a mastery book in the second air drop in my current game) it is sort of tempting when you feel like you're not getting anywhere.

    Is she meant to be used as a trader?

     

    She doesn't have the usual trade menu option, but that could be due to some coding stuff, and she does have those special things, which she probably doesn't have to have (considering Razor and Eve don't). On the fourth hand, using her does mean it isn't necessary to get to Caitlin, which removes a rather huge hurdle. And you can buy the portal thingy and skip the research bunker too, if you for some reason want to do that, So you could actually avoid the wasteland entirely.

    I bought mastery books from her in my last B26 game, and since there are two Annas per map, I suddenly had all the masteries very quickly, which did feel a bit off (I'm going to try to not buy mastery books from her in my current game and see how that goes).

    Not much info to work with, but as far as I can tell, that error sometimes indicates some save file has been corrupted and sometimes that the game installation contains old files or mods from other game versions (i.e. it wasn't a clean install). If you search for it, you can find results going back to at least A16.

     

    Advice for fixing it seems to be to verify files, do a clean install, making sure you don't have files from other mods (check to see if you have a  \AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Mods\ folder. Some mods can be lurking there and can interfere with the DF install). So basically the usual advice for everything to do with 7DtD...

    The Steam forum for the game has a pinned guide (I would link it, but some links seem to cause a moderation check which often puts the post in limbo for 5+ hours and I'm not sure which links cause it).

     

    You'll also have to make sure the server installation doesn't have issues, of course.

    You have a bunch of stuff in \AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Mods\ (the log has it as "\AppData\Roaming/7DaysToDie/Mods", which is weird).

    Most of it looks like POIs, but there are some other things too (I don't know what they are, but judging from the names they're probably not merely POIs).

    Best to move everything out of that folder.

    Hazmat suit parts didn't seem that rare in B25. I think I had a full set around level 35-40 or so. And later I got enough fiber for two of the anti-rad mods (so I could keep my helmet light when mining). Granted, I usually take Survivalist as my second class, so I can put points into Wasteland Treasures and the loot bonus from that might have helped me get more hazmat suit parts. Not sure.

     

    I've never managed to get enough fiber for a full set of mods in any version of DF and that's probably the same in recent versions. They are rather expensive.

    There was someone who had a really weird problem with DF where it sort of seemed like the wrong version of IDC Core was loading. Which made no sense as she'd made clean installs of everything. But maybe that could happen if there was something left in AppData (and if stuff there takes precedence over the mods folder in the game folder).

    So, I downloaded and freshly installed the new B26 with a new RWG map and everything was dandy.
    However, I noticed that the remote crafting was a bit borked.
    If I didn't have mats in my backpack or toolbelt and I went to craft remotely from nearby boxes, I could craft what I liked up to the mat amount I had, but it didn't deplete what was in the box at all. So, I basically could craft infinitely.
    This confused me and I went into the files to see what was up.
    Upon examination, even though I made sure the mods folder in the game directory was empty with a fresh install, I forgot I had a "CraftFromContainers" mod already installed in the "AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Mods" pathway!
    However, removing the AppData mods stopped the in-game "RemoteCrafting" from working! Which confused me even more! lol
    I'd probably need to do a fresh game to set that all straight I think... Which I'll do anyway for bug hunting.

    But this is just a lesson to tell the Fun Pimps to stop moving directories around and making us forget where @%$# is! 🤣

    Regardless of all that, great work as ever Khaine for the updates, thanks for all the effort. 👍❤️

    ow. Last night I happened to be reading some of the discussion about mods in AppData from back when TFP introduced it. I didn't think any mods actually used it (or that it even still worked, for that matter).

    That's certainly something to keep an eye out for if things get weird.

     

    Any idea if mods in AppData take priority over those in the game folder? If they do, it might explain some weird, seemingly unsolvable problems I've seen people talk about.

    yeh, I have no idea either.

     

    The game does create logs in C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\logs\, but I don't know if those deal with the kind of errors you're getting. Though, if your problem is due to something not loading properly, you'd think that would show up.

    I just can't see why. It seems like you have things installed correctly.

     

    I also tried the DF Large 1 map and had no problems looting nests and such, so it doesn't seem like the map is the problem either.

    I guess you could generate a map with B26 and see if that changes anything. Doesn't really seem like it should, but I can't think of anything else to try.

    I do the same. But if you had a mods folder there before installing DF, it wasn't a clean 7 Days install. Not sure if that's of importance, though.

     

    I'm running out of things to guess at...
