VanguardasVucava
Checking out my recording what causes the FPS to drop, I found out that my GPU usage% isn't staying at the 98~100% range. This can be fixed by further optimizations right? My CPU usages is fine, so I guess it's just the GPU usage that's the problem. at around the 2min mark it drops to around 50% usage when there are a lot of zombies but before the horde spawned it was stable at 98~100% edit: maybe GPU usage dropped cause the CPU usage increased and couldn't maintain the load. I'll try closing all my chrome tabs and overclocking my CPU in the future and hope it helps. overclocked my CPU from stock to 4.4GHz (using a low end Z270 board so can't push it higher) and RAM from 2133MHz to 3200MHz. got a nice 10% boost in FPS i wonder how well this works with ryzen system. does Unity play well with Ryzen? SylenThunder
No, Unity hates AMD from what I understand. I don't recall the exact issue offhand, but I think it was that it doesn't like using the CPU cores effectively. So basically you should get decent performance, but don't. Fox would know more. I gave up on AMD eons ago because of the huge number of compatibility issues, and because they couldn't do any heavy lifting. Times are changing, but I'm old now. Fox
No, Unity hates AMD from what I understand. Aside from the dumb hyper-threading feature not being used in A16 (though might have been corrected in A17), Ryzen has no problem at all in running this game. My first gen R5 1600x idles with this game at around 10 - 15%. And with Gen 2 coming out in July, I imagine it will greatly increase performance with this game (per core and overall) and anyone with Intel CPUs will wish they went with Ryzen cuz they'll be cheaper and faster in every way. Also, I have yet to see a single compatibility issue with any game and any AMD CPU ever... AMD GPUs, yes... AMD GPUs are a bit of a pain in the butt, but CPUs? They all do the same thing that Intel does, it's just Intel was better with per core performance for the longest time... but not anymore. Just the fact that Intel uses AMD drivers should say quite a bit about how they both do the exact same thing and have the exact same compatibility with games and stuff. As to the Op's question... I don't know what CPU you're using (especially since I'm seeing 9 cores in the video... I assume one of them is overall usage?), but seeing 8 cores being used at like 40%+ like that and primary core at 70%+, I can only assume the per core performance is being used at the maximum. The reason I think that is because I think this game really only focuses on 2 cores + hyper-threaded cores and fakes it by spreading that usage onto other cores which levels it all out making you think it's using all cores while gaming. A lot of games are like that and it's very deceptive (though I'm sure they do it for stability reasons). So if you do the math at any point in the video and add up all the core percentages, and your hyper-threaded cores clearly works well, so in your case, it would never reach past 400% (though streaming and playing at the same time might affect the results a bit). So at 400%, that could be 2/2 cores at 100%. At 200%, it'd be 2/0 cores at 100%. In my case, cuz I have Ryzen and hyper-threading wasn't working for me with A16, I'd have a maximum of 200%. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1063603328 I could very well be completely wrong on this, but this has been my experience through a bunch of testing and seeing other ppl's core usage as well. Hopefully, once A17 officially releases, I'll try some more testing to see what the core usages are again. For now, I'm just patiently waiting.
