"Out of Stamina"

I don't know about the rest of you, but it's gotten downright infuriating seeing that message pop up. I've put extra points in Agility, Cardio, Pack Mule and food/water retention (forgot the name), but every 20 seconds I'm running out of stamina.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the movement speed supposed to be increased and the sprint was supposed to be a short extra fast dash? I liked that idea, and it would have made more sense for the stamina to drain quickly when used. But the way it's done now, I'm having to constantly stuff my face with food and water and stop to let my tub of lard character catch his breath. It's less of a thing I have to manage and more of an obstacle to even play the game at all.

Maybe it'll get better at higher levels, but it's kind of miserable out the gate. I might look into modifying some files on my server to make it more enjoyable.

Anyway, these are my opinions. Let me know yours.

I guess it's been a while since you had a starter toon in A15 or 16? Seems to me that was pretty much my life for at least the first week. :D

But overall I'd have to say it is a bit worse.

Doing regular attacks seems to wear you out about the same in 17 as attacks in 16, but the power attacks run you down pretty quick. That may need to be adjusted a bit. The run/walk routine seems also seems about the same as on day one in A16, maybe a bit worse but not much.

My bigger concern is that with the skills to improve stamina gain and loss being locked behind attributes and the attribute levels being level gated it's slower to build them up to get to where we were by week 2 or 3.

Waiting for people to come in and yell "your playing the game like its A16".

Yea, its annoying. Try mining and harvesting and then see how annoying it is. You want to pull your hair out, especially underground. It introduces those annoying micro pauses in your gameplay where your waiting to recover.

And when you enter a POI, the devs like putting 20 or 30 zombies in one POI, so your stamina gets even more annoying with hit, run outside, recover, repeat ... Even worse when its ferals.

Even with high level stats, perk and weapons, you have what feels like the stamina of a overweight IT guy.

Yeah, the guy above you already went there, lol. I kind of expect a bunch of "learn to play" responses.

That said, the time it takes not to be a useless tub of lard seems excessive (if not insurmountable. I'm not sure, since I just hit the 7th day on the most recent build). It's not something that introduces difficulty as much as something that's getting in the way of having any fun.

I don't think harvesting is slower than before. You just need to watch your stamina and take small pauses to always keep a small reserve just in case. If you just keep yourself near exhaustion you wont be able to run away if wolves or other things surprise you while you harvest.

When I take my harvesting pauses I will often check around for zombies, check my food and drink and other micro things. Yes harvesting is a bit of a chore but it has always been.

True but now its more of a dead trap cycle then before.

Before you had pauses but non-runners allowed you to better run out of harms way, even with low stamina. Now you need to manage your stamina so much, that your more focused on that stamina bar then anything else. And if you mine and run out, you become very defenseless very fast. Aimed firing and bye stamina. Heavy hitting and ... it feels like a cycle where your more dealing with your stamina then in the past.

And it feels annoying even with perks. A lot of changes feel deliberate to make everything super slow, so you do not reach (missing) end content fast. But after level 30, it then feels like you already have everything. Superman with the stamina of a IT guy. *lol* ...

The balance is off...

I'm surprised you guys aren't asking to be able to walk up to a tree, demand how much resources you want, then walk away with it.

There is always somebody who seems to mistake annoying game design with people being "lazy" / "want it all fast" attitude. Nobody here asked for this, so please do not bring it up. People simply point out how the game balance is off and more of a time sink without productivity.

If that's all it is, how many times does it have to be pointed out? How many times do people have to respond that this is an experimental and balance is being worked on?

Now, this might comes as a "oh, DaFuQ?" moment, but consider this....

I Freaking love smashing boulders. Rocks in general. And do you know what I noticed? I went into all the same skills as mentioned above, but nothing ♥♥♥♥ing happened.

THEN!

I took the time to actually READING the perks, and guess what I found? normal hits (with a few of the earlier mentioned perks) +1 in T-rex, made me use ONE stamina per normal swing. Right now, I can mine about 5 blocks, take 10 seconds pause (as you would in real life), take another 5 blocks. Also, you gotta eat sometime, right?

We know it's experimental, and we know the balance is being worked out. Why do you think we're mentioning these issues?

I think you have the impression we've just come here to bash the game, and you're entirely mistaken. We love the game, and we want it to be the best game it can be. So when something is introduced that makes it less fun than before, we voice our opinions so the developers know it's an issue that's enough of a problem to set aside development time to resolve.

That doesn't answer my first question: How many times do you have to give the same feedback? There's already at least one "A17 stamina" thread.

What impression would you like me to take from the fact that this complaint already has been documented extensively but you still started a new thread anyway?

Agreed. Just not fun playing the walking game.

If there was only one thread bashing stamina, it would probably get lost in the rest of the complaints. Its the standard way to get something that is not acceptable, changed. It happens in RL politics and its going to happen here. People who are not happy about something will voice their opinion over, and over, and over again until they are heard.

Their opinion has been heard. Do the devs need to do like I do with my two-year-old child: "Child, I hear that you think stamina is not balanced. We are working on balance"?

Somehow, I don't think that will change anything.

I found the other thread (must have skipped over it and didn't see anything stamina related on the next three pages), and guess who's the first person saying it's fine? lol

He wants it the same, so he's trying to derail all constructive debate. Don't take the bait.

I find no trouble mining once I get perked up. It's about progression... starting the game as good as you're going to get is what most people found annoying/boring about A16... Red tea /coffee/beers and you're good to go. After adding points into sexual tyrannosaurus I can melee down a horde easily. If I get low on stamina, pop a red tea or coffee or something and good to go. It encourages tactics, rather than run smack into a broken-AI horde standing there and fighting.

Fighting a horde in a POI and run low on stamina? Use the envrionment to retreat to a point where it takes them a bit to get to you and fire a few arrows; regain some stam and melee some.

Stamina management in the beginning is definitely a learning process. Some things I've found that help:

1.) (As someone already mentioned) go in small spurts. As long as you stay well hydrated, stamina regens decently fast and keeping some in reserve helps with general survival. I find going no lower than 30 in the beginning when harvesting to be about right.

2.) Keep some canned food on you. You'll have to eat more often than when using bacon and eggs, but it helps keep your stamina topped off.

3.) Red tea and coffee help decently. Beer also helps, but I hate the blurry effect.

4.) If you're using the power swing, don't just hold down the button. I find that consumes more stamina than clicking, waiting a second and then clicking again even though with the delay between swings, you're still landing them in about the same time.

In one game, I'm at 130 stamina right now. I still have to pause on occasion, but can chew through a boulder pretty fast and without draining stamina too much.

0% stamina downtime here at level 1 in my new game.

-I covered 3km to the trader as easily as in A16. Covering distances is certainly no-issue. Regen is quite fast.

-Keep yourself hydrated/satiated.

-Don't try to build something that requires a ton of materials at the start.

-Don't try to harvest a ton of materials in one sitting.

-Get the right perks for what you want to do. If you want to build a base early in the game get strength perks like t-rex, miner, motherload.

-Don't try to dig out an underground base at level 1 like in A16.

-Don't try to break steel safes with a stone axe.

-Mix your actions.

Exactly. Think outside the box folks lol. Same at ktr, once you adapt it's not a problem. A16 spoiled people, to be honest. This feels like how the game should be.

Well... fun and immersion aren't there for me anymore... only challenge... if you feel differently, good for you :)

Also, don't wear armor if you're running somewhere or simply mining. It slows you down and wears you out, especially heavy armor. Makes a huge difference early game. I save my armor for when I'm doing POIs until I have transport or plenty of coffee and more points in rule number one.

I'll be sure to tell the other player that's shooting at me to wait for a second so I can put on my armor. kthx

It's more like "Think inside the new box, because you're not allowed to have fun outside that box anymore."

Yeah, the stamina usage is a joke. Got some perks already, scored steelboots and gloves at the trader and can´t even run 100m with stamina 140.

7 days to die, the walking/waiting FPS.

I'll be sure to tell the other player that's shooting at me to wait for a second so I can put on my armor. kthx

Well, it´s a SP/Coop game. The friendly fire got released on accident and way earlier than planned. So yeah, if you play PvP go play a game made for it, or wait until it get´s love. Don´t demand to change SP/Coop for your PvP likes please. This game is NOT about PvP. (Generally speaking, not certainly about the actual topic here)
