Merida
I will post this here. If it ain't at the right place, feel free to put it where it belongs. I just did some burn time calculation vs wood costs. Remember that 1 wood burns for 50 seconds. Here goes: Crude wood railing takes 4 wood and burns for 2:30. Should be 3:20. White picket fence takes 3 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 2:30. Wood arrow block takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood arrow slit takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood board stair & rail takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood catwalk takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood catwalk corner takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood catwalk wedge corner rail takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood catwalk 1 takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood catwalk 2 takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood farm fence takes 3 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 2:30. Wood fence takes 3 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 2:30. Wood log takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood pole takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood stair railing left takes 6 wood and burns for 5:00. No fix here. Wood support beam takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood wedge tip takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood board stairs takes 8 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 6:40. Wood pole centered takes 4 wood and burns for 5:00. Should be 3:20. Wood chair takes 6 wood + 10 nails and burns for 2:30. Should be 5:00 considering the amount of wood taken. ALL WOOD FRAMES takes 2 wood and burns for 2:30. Should be 1:40. One gas can burns for 5 seconds and 1 gas barrel burns for 20 minutes. Considering that you need 600 gas cans to make a barrel, the barrel should burn for 50 minutes (3000 seconds). Heads up Gazz!
DarlingCows
What the burn time for coal? I’ve never used it since I use it for gunpowder.
LuckyStar
Looks like I'm burning fences for awhile. Thanks for taking the time to go through all that Merida.
Zourin
We really need a Firewood item that just does that. It's messy always having to worry about which item has the optimal burn time. I use wood plates which is 4 wood and 5 minutes burn. Most other games try to push Coal as the 'long burn' item of choice, but in 7DTD, you need that ♥♥♥♥ for gunpowder. tbh, regular wood works just fine at 50s, except for large jobs like gunpowder, gas, or smelting down a couple hundred iron ores/stones. JCrook1028
Meh, I always ignore the odd items and just burn wood. It's not like it's hard to get hold of. To me it just seems exploitive to burn things that aren't balanced properly.
Nena
What the burn time for coal? I’ve never used it since I use it for gunpowder. 20 seconds. I save most of it, but it's convenient to top off the time on a campfire if you want to cook something while you're gone without adding unnecessary heat. Zourin
Meh, I always ignore the odd items and just burn wood. It's not like it's hard to get hold of. To me it just seems exploitive to burn things that aren't balanced properly. in A17, you could craft 'wood logs', but they had a worse burn time than the ingredients. It normally took 10 wood to craft, so I modified the burn timer to be an even 10x, and used that as firewood. It wasn't really cheating, since i had the same amount of wood to begin with, it was just saving myself some time portioning for long burns. The trouble with using 'just wood' is the really limited options you have for adding wood to a campfire, forge, or chem station. If you have 15 minutes worth of cook time and 718 wood, you can either drop one-by-one, or halvsies, halvsies, halvsies until you sorta have the right amount, then drop a few and check again, then add one back in. Using wood plates, I drop 3 plates in and done. Although, seriously, TFP should just make it 60 seconds per wood so we can math like adults: lazily.
