Grue
How do I put this delicately? A17 Kind of sucks. Thus far there is nothing I have found that I like enough to outweigh all the mechanics changes that I do not like. Is there some way to opt out of A17, stick with my old game saves, and not deal with this update?

wordwaster
very similar to what you did to opt in. set it to "NONE - opt out of all beta programs" at the top of the list.
Grue
No, I mean permanently. Eventually this ♥♥♥♥ is going to go live as the main build. Can I just stay on A16 until they come to their senses?
Mezameru
Alpha 16.4 is already an option you can select in the beta menu of 7d2d. The same dropdown menu list you chose to select latest experimental. So yes.
chinothepony
Yeah you can play a whole host of older alphas. Check that drop down list again.

I guess more specifically, if I could keep the graphics, AI and the new vehicles, but ♥♥♥♥ can all the stamina changes, every house is a mini-dungeon and go back to blueprints instead of level gates, that would make me happy. Dawg711
So what you never plan to play the completed version of the game? This game is now a SURVIVAL game finally. Why not learn how to play. It is not hard at all if you STOP playing like it was 16 and start playing it as 17. I just 9 levels on 4 difficulty with a friend in 3hrs. In 2 days he is level 30. Lots of things are unlocked now and still the game is a challenge unlike 16 that gets easy once you have a few guns. I do not understand why people buy Early Access and then do not want or expect changes. THis is a survival game and finally the SUrvival part is coming out. This game is not a survival game. It's almost impossible to survive from what i have seen. If you run out of stamina you will die quickly, and you will run out of stamina. Then when you revive, you will have a death punishment which will leave you with even more stamina issues. You even get punished for nearly dieing. There is no more outsmarting zombies because they all went to zombie university, so nowhere to hide. No point in grinding for better gear because it will all get destroyed when they find you, and they will find you. No room in the inventory any more anyway, so might as well not pick anything up, although if you keep your huge pile of stone and throw out one plant fiber, you wont be encumbered any more. I did buy this game knowing it was in Alpha, and I have enjoyed the hell out of it. 3,600 hours of enjoyment, so thank you fun pimps for all those hours. But I will not invest any time in alpha 17 because for me, its not fun any more.

pApA^LeGBa
Having a hard time to survive doesn´t make a game a survival game. Just sayin. Also a death penalty or a stamina that is hard to keep are not survival elements. Is dark soul survival becasuse it´s hard to survive? I don´t think so. Food, Weather, temperature and such are survival elements.

A16 was also a Survival game, and a Zombie Survival Game at that. A17 is more like Resident Evil or I am Legend, the creatures we are faced with are not Zombies in anyway other than look. The perk system Sucks I don't care what game it's in, The Skill system is much better in my opinion, Give me a book or schematic and let me learn a skill, don't make me acquire "Perks" I don't need for what I do need, and not everyone wants to have to play with others just to level at a decent rate or survive. I don't understand why people seem to think that things that make a game more frustrating means its more difficult, A17 is no more difficult than A16 and the survival Aspect hasn't really changed at all, it's just really aggravating to play and that makes it less fun. There are many changes that I like, but like OP there are many I don't. I backed my A16 up prior to updating so that If A17 turned out to no longer be a Zombie survival game (Don't know what you call those creatures, but they aren't Zombies) I could still have a copy if it from when it was while testing the Latest Build, but as far as playing the finished version, no, If this is the way the game is going, when it's finished I personally will just leave my review and move on to something else and I'm betting that there are a lot of other people who will feel the same, only they just won't say anything about it. This dude thinks there will be a completed version!!.... that kills me. it's been like 4 years of early access. dude let me help you out. This game is not a challenge nor has it ever been. it's use to be fun. it was about fun. in a fun universe. now it's about walking. walking really really slow. it's about eating every 30 seconds so you can have max stamina. it's about falling through floors in every house. it's about weapons and tools doing the same damage at lvl 1 to max level. it's about trying to take as long as possible to get to max level because they don't actually have a end game. so just draw out the early game with repetitive and slow bull♥♥♥♥. ricp
Just a quick head's up on this, from my testing of the latest build (199 as opposed to the first A17 release 197) the zombie difficulty has been changed noticeably. Essentially each zombie is just a few power smack from death rather than being a sponge. Now personally I have no issue with more difficult zombies, in fact if I could run the game at a steady 60fps I'd play on the hardest mode possible, but for those who are struggling with the difficulty at Nomad (default) level you'll find the newer experimental build makes your early game a lot easier. Edit: To address the initial question, then yes you can always go back to a previous version (and do so completely; ie: 16.4 will be 16.4 not a downgraded A17) via the Steam betas option. There is another way to do this though and that's via things like the 7D2DModLauncher. http://7d2dmodlauncher.org I would be mightily surprised if it supported A17 at present but that doesn't matter, the reason I mention it is that in order to separate your modded gameplay from vanilla it will copy the whole game to a different directory and apply the relevant mods to that rather than the original steam install. This way you can keep a copy that will not be updated and can be accessed easily from the mod launcher.
Khulkhuum
It is a bit sad, but i can understand your opinion. People find enjoyment and fun in many different things. Some will write poetry, some will enjoy watching horror movies, others will run a marathon, and a few will watch movies on youtube. Surely as the game gets more and more narrowed into specific expectations from the TFP, not everyone will be satisfied. If your favorite restaurant changes the recipe of your fav meal, you will stop going there. If your favorite band shifts a bit their style or tries something new, you could stop being their fan (heard that a few times in a couple conversations). Does this make you a worse person? No. You have specific tastes which were properly catered for a long time and now you feel hollow and/or even left out because they are not catered anymore. There definitely are people that could change your mind around, especially as new updates roll in that take care of bugs and the most annoying things. I still want to remind that it IS an experimental branch and a lot of things could change before the stable hits. On the other hand, you could wait for some mods, as i already see them pop up on the forums. Whatever you choose doing - stay or go, embrace A17 or go back to the past - i hope you find again what lightens your soul.
