zicky
Here are my first impressions of Alpha 17 Before I begin, let me say that I have over 2300 hours in the game in single player mode and let me say that Lucille and I have walked tall in the past. Let me also say that we are a crouching now. TFP have out-did themselves on the graphics. They are simply great and I have to give you kudos for them. At one point in the game, I felt like I was moving in a photograph. The zeds move much more smoother and lifelike than before and, in addition, simply look much better. I play in random-gen using the same unimaginative key of death. The game generated me a map titled Dipiri Valley and took a sizable amount of time to generate, I estimate somewhere between eight and twelve minutes. However, if you want to use the same map (and key) for each subsequent game, it's a generate once, use many times map generation which is wonderful. If for any reason you have to start over or you want to start over and like your map, this will save a significant amount of start up time. The first day is brutal. Here are my experiences. Game one. Nomad, 200% loot, No respawn, no run, 7 day airdrop, 32 zombies unmodded. I lasted 12 hours into the game walking tall. I died five times from zeds, three of which was from sleeper vultures, yes there are sleeper vultures, and once from a wolf. It wasn't the hits, it was the bleeding. You only have the one bandage and once its gone... I figured I needed to change my tactics. Game two. Died in the first poi I tried to clear out as the zed's kept spawning without letup. After my twentieth zombie I was killed and stupid me had not put my bedroll down first so I respawned on the other side of the world. Important lesson for day one. Always have a respawn point close by before attempting to clear a poi. I never really feared death in Alpha 16.4 as the only thing that I had difficulty with was the zombie bear hoard. Game three. I finally made it to day 2 without dying, even though at one point I was down to 1 unit of health. I killed two boars, one chicken and 36 zeds on day one but only managed to clear two small POIs. I now crouch a lot and I can happily say the FEAR FACTOR is back. Death is always right around the corner and every noise you make has consequences. Zed's are lurking everywhere and are deadly and seem to come right out of the woodwork. God I love this game.
