So, now that you know the fact that NONE of the streamers were given the game lemme ask you. What are you smoking?

Btw, yes I know a lot of youtubers and streamers get free copies of games. But that is not the subject at hand. The subject at hand is THIS event and that is simply not the case here. This is NOT "business as usual". Time to make some wine with those sour grapes you're holding onto imo.

Same answer as a few posts above yours: I said business as usual and not that TFP did that. And earlier i said they probably got it for free. Probably. Google it.

I worded it that way because i didn´t know how TFP handled this. So yeah, you can keep that grapes. Sorry.

I've never understood why there are so many people upset about the streamers, it's 3 days. If you're so impatient that you can't wait 3 days extra then how do you even manage to play the game? Some things in this game do require a lot of patience. Now if they gave it to the streamers even a month ahead (which even that wouldn't be that bad unless your life literally revolves around 7d2d) I can see people being a little more justified in saying things about it, but as it is what's the big deal? We all wanna try A17 and see the new changes for ourselves but there are things to do other than 7D2D, guys. Calm down. BTW this wasn't necessarily aimed at the person who started this thread, it was aimed at the several people I've seen that say TFP is a bad company because they are giving to streamers 3 days early,I don't necessarily think they are a bad company but if I was to say they were it wouldn't be because of giving to streamers a few days early, stop it and go play something else until it's out or just drop the game and never come back.

Because there is no reasonable reason why they can't release it to everyone at once. Why should some asshat get early access just because hes on twitch over other people? Release it to all, and just advertise there is a streaming event for people who are curious. This will make everyone happy. I personally dislike most streamers these days, it used to be about having a good time, now all they care about is how many subs/how much money they make anymore. It was better back before it all got monetized.

They didn´t get it somehow free, they got it from the devs. What did you smoke that you don´t know this?

That's not a probably. (and yes I know you used probably elsewhere in your post) Jus sayin.

Really? i just used your words. Assuming. Like you did yourself in the original post i answered to. Even used somehow like you did. So yeah, you can still keep that grapes. Sorry. Seems like you have to eat them on your own.

Roland explained the reason a few times, did you miss it or not understand it? Exclusivity for a few days is the payment for the advertisment. And advertisement is seldom free.

This type of payment comes quite cheap, imagine they would have to pay hundreds of streamers to play their game,

He did miss it. He, like others, can't see beyond their own raging disgust and disdain of streamers. It blinds them. You can see it in how he cannot help but refer to them all collectively as asshats. And why are they asshats? Because they stream gameplay for others to watch. You look at the people most angry about this and in almost every case it goes back to a deep dislike for streamers. That dislike overwhelms logic and reason and any explanation to convince them is shredded in the maw of their jealousy.

Even the guy above who said that TFP is favoring new customers over old customers. The streamers are not new customers. Many if not most have been playing this game for years just like us. Many have hundreds of hours racked up. Many follow the development. But the haters will not acknowledge that. All they are willing to see is that some glory hogging asshats who don't understand the game and haven't supported the developers and got the game for free get to play first before the true fans.

It's a load of malarky and even though it doesn't rise to the level of social and racial bigotry, it is still a form of prejudice that is plain as day to see.

Am I the only one who hopes you have a few streamers that are new to the game? I quite enjoy watching "First Impression Videos" of games, even if I already own them or not. Sometimes it brings me back to those first precious weeks of playing were everything is new. Plus it's also fun watching a newbie get rekt ;)

I answer questions about the game all the time. Your characterization of me is blatantly false to anyone that is even casually aware of my post history.

The fact that THIS is your new “counterpoint” is telling. You can’t even answer my points directly. You have to lie and say that I don’t answer game related questions....lol.

And I’m not bashing the critics, themselves. I am bashing their insulting attacks against people, or clarifying erroneous ideas they have based on assumptions wherever I have first-hand knowledge. I let criticism stand unanswered all the time. But, I never let insulting attacks against the developers, other forum members, or streamers stand unanswered. If the haters could criticize without also spewing personal attacks I’d post less. But that is not in their nature...

I don’t think any of the streamers are new to the game. I think most of them are going to be stumbling through the learning curve and getting rekt by the new pathing and AI.

Quests are not safe Day 1 affairs but I bet at least a few will jump right into a quest to try it out and that will be entertaining.

We soft delete posts meaning that moderators can see them still after they have been removed. I just scrolled through the entire thread. You have zero deleted posts in this thread and all of your posts in this thread are unaltered. In fact, nobody's posts have been deleted in this particular thread.

Shouldn't Tfp be favoring new customers? Isn't that how business works? C'mon people...

You can show the game to new customers without letting your already existing customers wait longer for it. It´s not like that existing customers will stop anyone who doesn´t own the game watching those streams.

It´s not about those 3 days. It´s about the twisted logic behind it. Explain how giving this to streamers earlier will influence people that do not own the game please. How does giving everyone the new Alpha at the same time stop new customers from watching a stream?

@Roland. Well please explain how a system that takes away the control from the player can replace a system where the player has free choice.

In detail:

1) Streamers want as much viewers as possible.

2) Exclusivity brings viewers.

2a) Because they can brag about it and some of their viewers have the (wrong) impression that exclusive stuff is worth more. Human nature.

2b) Exclusivity gets them more viewers also because some of the current players will watch the streams only if they can't play themselves (that is a fact, several forum posters said exactly that).

3) From 1 and 2 it follows that streamers want exclusivity.

4) Many streamers are not primarily 7days streamers. They expect some form of incentive to change their normal schedule and show 7 days instead. Bigger streamers know exactly what they are worth and expect payment or some sort of compensation for their services. If you want streamers outside your usual pool, don't expect them to run in your doors.

From 3 and 4 follows streamers might accept exclusivity as incentive or payment

Is that logic somehwere twisted? Show me.

Well, I disagree that it is twisted logic. I submit it is plain straight logic that I have explained several times and which you’ve never once addressed directly—instead choosing to go off topic with me. Please explain how the logic I have given behind the importance of the event being exclusive is twisted. Don’t just say it is.

As for your question it depends on the feature. What are you talking about specifically? The direct answer to how is that the developers code it in that way. But you probably want to know why they’ve chosen to do so and yet you’re not being specific about which feature.

Tbh, if they only watch because of it beeing exclusive, the chances they are actually interested are pretty low. I mean those people would watch the next streamer playing an exclusive barbie game instead, if the 7d2d stream is not exclusive and all they care about is, is the fact that it is exclusive. I don´t think it is worth the deal tbh.

Especially not if no other games in a similar genre has a release on that exact same weekend.

Ok, good argument. But you are forgetting that the exclusivity is primarily to attract streamers. Whether exactly the watchers who like exclusivity or just the regular customers of that streamers finally buy the game doesn't matter to TFP.

And: Nowadays a lot of the gamers select their games from watching streams about new games. They obviously can't choose a game they haven't seen. Even someone who just looks for exclusivity might get an appetite watching the stream just you might get interested into a movie from watching a trailer. Even if watching the trailer was just because it was running on the TV of a friend and not your conscious decision.

Let's not forget that you are all quibbling over an experimental version. The actual alpha 17.0 will not come until later . The fun pimps were gracious in opening up testing to anyone willing to put up with bugs and repeated wipes to those members of the community who want to contribute. It's not done so all the entitled kiddies can have it early. If they choose to incorporate a streamer event more power to them but it's risky. Why would you want to advertise a likely hot mess on twitch?

Anyway, i feel sorry for the people that post how sad, upset, and disappointed they are. Truly anyone that has so little going on in their lives that this actually makes them grieve needs our pity.

Disgusting behaviour from the streamers tbh. It´s a shame you have to serve them as a dev. I never understood the whole streaming games thing anyways. Who has enough time to watch people play and playing for yourself?

Believe me, I don't understand the fascination for streamers either, but a good friend of mine watches them a lot.

Would you prefer if streamers simply had to be paid? There must be SOME compensation if you want them to do something that they wouldn't do without it, right? They don't have any obligation to stream this game and no need if there is a pool of thousands of games to show. It is supply and demand

View them as a commerical entitiy like a games magazine or games website and you maybe appreciate what they do. Good luck getting a games magazine to report about your game, if they are not that interested. Then you have to work at it as well, suck up to them, give them the game to play... Would you view a games magazine as doing something disgusting

Objection! Getting access to early versions is part of the deal in EA.

Right, but getting a glorified release candidate is a different animal. They don't *have * to do that and could just rely on a select group of testers.

The RC is just a label. The select group of testers has searched for bugs all the time. But TFP knows from experience that we will find more bugs, some of which they never might find without such a big hardware basis and different play styles.

So they call it RC because they know that further versions will definitely be necessary, but the step to let us test it and we finding more bugs is nearly inevitable. Non-EA games do this step after release ;-).

Interestingly, this tends to be the response of people toward things that they don't understand: put it down, usually make it a moral issue in some way, dismiss it, and come up with reasons why it shouldn't be that way.

Thank you for the case study.
