KingSlayerGM
Hi guys, I would like to share with you what I consider to be the best horde night defense system. I survived 100 days with this in a dead is dead game. PROS: easy to buildcheapgives 100% of experience to the playerworks with any materialeasy to maintainno need for bullets CONS: you actively need to defend during horde nightcrawlers and dogs get stuck under the structure, but you can fix this with spikes Any material is OK, but I suggest cobblestone for week 1, concrete week 2, steel week 3... Here it is: build this structureuse a melee weapon of your choicekeep smashing their skulls as they come, don't let them break your blockskeep repairing as blocks are damagedkeep looting The top layer is made out of 1/2 blocks, so you can easily JUMP UP and down, but zombies can't reach you. What do you think? Anybody has anything better? KingSlayerGM Edit: Guys I suggest putting spikes like point A, not point B. Also destroying quickly gore blocks (point C) helps to not let zombies be pushed up.
Crater Creator
I like this a lot. Two of my personal criteria for a horde base are that it facilitate me killing zombies directly, and that it not exploit any flaws that enable unlimited safety, or are otherwise cheap or immersion breaking by my own standards. Assuming the zombies don’t get stuck in a loop trying and failing to jump onto the platform, this design hits both boxes. I also like that it works just as well with melee or ranged weapons. I might opt for multiple legs underneath, so that dogs and crawlers can move freely without hitting one center support. But then again, one could argue that’s getting into stilt base territory. Whorhay
I like a 3x3 pit to bedrock. Fill the center blocks from the top nearly to the bottom with blade traps. Place upside down spikes in the bottom. Surround with a cage at the bottom made of horizontal fence post blocks. I can build the whole thing and have it ready solo by day 14. ColdSteelRain
I like the simplicity of it, and the XP going to the player. This looks really vulnerable to cops, vultures, crawlers destroying the center posts, and a stack of corpses letting the zombies jump to your platform. How are you handling these threats? Kattla
The top layer is made of slabs, so you can easily JUMP UP and down, but zombies can't reach you. What do you think? KingSlayerGM It is intresting. How do you deal with radiated feral cops?
aloys
fun, simple design. but like others have said. Radiated cop explosions and other strong radiated zombies are going to make life difficult. a strong gun is going to be needed when you have 5-10 radiated cops all around you. you should at least build a tunnel underneath so you can escape if you need to. KingSlayerGM
Cops and ferals It is intresting. How do you deal with radiated feral cops? fun, simple design. but like others have said. I always have an emergency gun that I use exclusively for those though ♥♥♥♥ers. Anyway, as you know, cops explosions don't do much damage to steel. So I am always OK. Furthermore there is no need for tunnels! The platform is TOO HIGH FOR ZOMBIES TO JUMP UP, but players can easily do it. So, if you find yourself in trouble, just jump down from the opposite side and run away (maybe have a spare platform that you can immediately jump on again). But in 100 days I have never found myself overwhelmed by zombies with this system. My favorite loadout is: emergency ak-47repair toolspiked clublots of points in pummel pete

Still find these mobs kinda borderline broken by design. Hell even madmole complaining over just a bigbertha made me chuchkle pretty hard i wonder what would happened to him if he was faced with all those radiated feral things with that shotgun in his latest A17 Perishton video :>. It feels more that some of these enemys (radiated feral wright/cop)just exist to promote the Rocketlauncher. The Rocketlauncher should have been, in my eyes, only a fun weapon for the resource "rich" in the endgame instead of a must have.

EzunaAranna
It strikes me that another one of these would also be a great place to put forges and workbenches? What do you think - have you tried this?
Aldranon
A nice controlled destruction fort is the "Inca Pyramid": each "step" being two blocks high with the upper one being rounded. This allows the player to hop up the the next higher tier and prevents the zombies from doing so. The center can be a fall to bedrock with a few hay bales that you remove so you can continue the fight outside a "Zombie Extruder" inside out fort. There are not enough zombies that can ever be spawned in one night to kill you.

zombie4hire
I tried the OP's defense against a pretty light day 35 horde and it worked very well. Good for looting and killing the zeds. None got on the platform, which I had wondered about. No dogs on that night though, a bit odd.

Kosmic Kerman
Yes - a SEPARATE ONE - some distance away is exactly what I mean Anything you placed on it would float because the design uses half blocks. Also everything would be exposed which doesn’t seem like a great idea to me.
EzunaAranna
This worked like a charm on the second horde night...in fact it was so easy it was boring I'm going to alter it slightly though and put two rows of spikes against the central pillar at ground level....the only annoyances were dogs that run under the flooring so I had to leap down and draw them out and shoot them. If there had been spikes there they would have essentially killed themselves.

EzunaAranna
I'm going to use this as the model for a base. Find flat land, and make FOUR of them all joined together with the four central pillars. Then extend each pillar upwards as the legs of an aerial base.
Wyrda78
It's sort of sad that AI exploitation has been simplified down to the level of a simple concrete platform 1 1/2 blocks of the ground.
dcsobral
By "slabs" you mean plates or half blocks?
zombie4hire
I used plates in my experiment and they worked very well. And I do not see this as AI exploitation, it is simply zombies can not jump two squares.

dcsobral
Yeah, that looked to be the case. It's the same principle of the toothy, applied differently. I like this a lot, and, yes, pretty cheap, though I have one a bit cheaper, only it doesn't really scale.
