A17: Weapon changes question.

In A17 we know that TFP is going to change the way firearms work in the game. They will no longer be seprate parts that have to be put together. They will be a complete weapon. And weapon modifications will replace weapon parts, To make them suit diffrent playstyles and rolls.

 

But now I have to ask. If guns are going to be made so that there complete at all times, And are no longer based in individual parts. Those being the stock, reciever, parts and barrel. Then whats going to happen to all the weapon schematics in the game? Im sure everyone nows that in oreder to assemble a gun, you need to have read its schematic first, but with this change weapon scheamtics have become obsolet, And how many mods the weapon can have is based on quality.

 

So whats going to become of the schamatics for the pistol, magnum, sawed off/ regular shotgun, hunting rifle, sniper rifle, SMG, and Ak-47?

 

Another question: How are gunsafes going to work in A17: As right now you mostly find anywehre from 1-3 or 4 weapon parts, depending on luck, and sometimes even find a full gun. But if A117 is change guns to be 1 entity instead of 4, then doesnt that mean that one gun safe could hold one to four firearms? And maybe even weapon mods?

 

And a third quesiion: How do you think this will effect early game? As finding jus one gun safe could mean getting any of the above weapons super early in game?

 

Id love to get answers for these questions.

1. I would expect gun schematics will be removed from the game. The trend has been towards fewer books to read. However they might get a new life as instructions for installing 'advanced' mods, whatever those might be, and/or to allow you to repair firearms.

 

2. It's not hard to adjust what loot you get from a gun safe and how much. I'm sure they can balance the number of weapons and weapon mods you find as well as it's been balanced before. If not... wait for an Alpha 17 version of ComSenMod. :D

 

3. There are still some balancing factors that make things difficult in the early game. For one thing, breaking into the gun safe isn't trivial in the early game - you're expected to not bother until you have a decent tool. Secondly, as far as I know they're keeping leveled loot. That means a good quality firearm in the early game would be quite a rare find. And third, of course, a firearm is useless without ammunition, and you have to progress a fair amount before you can produce ammo en masse.

 

My hope is they find the right balance between being able to shoot zombies whenever you want on one end, and never bothering with firearms because they're too much trouble/work on the other end. To my mind, if the player sometimes finds themselves in situations where they don't want to open fire, but the horde is closing in, ramping up the pressure until dispatching them the 'right' (safe, quiet, cheap) way just isn't working, that would be the ideal for a zombie survival game.

If history is any indication then the stuff that is no longer used in the default game gets removed. However, in this case the schematics could be repurposed for other things. Maybe they give you a boost to repair values or are even the on/off switch for allowing repairs? There may be additional books to be found for each mod so the schematics no longer matter. Who knows for sure at this point? It will all balance out eventually with testing and tuning.

I will miss the gun parts, love fiddling with them.

 

My question: in my most advanced game I have a big crate full of gun parts. What happens to them when Alpha 17 arrives?

Will they disappear or be replaced by gunmods?

 

In case of the latter, I will have to play 24/7 in order to get missing parts. Haha, as if I was not doing that since I got the game

You’re going to have to start a new file regardless because it’s going to be incompatible and mess your game up. I imagine if you did try to load the older game into the new version the parts will just be gone.

If you try to load an A16 game into A17 it will be sucked into the 5th circle of hell and tormented for eons.

 

I expect nothing less.

 

I managed to survive from A15 to A16. A17 brings fresh terrors no doubt.

The world suffered terribly at the beginning of A16, but my magic was strong and after one or two updates my walls stood stronger than before.

 

But I get your meaning. I will take what time I have left in A16 world and say goodbye to my stronghold, the tower, Bloodmoon Arena and Romero Plaza.
