PS4 Multiplayer Host Crash

Hi Team,

Im currently playing 7DTD on a PS4 Pro and hosting a private invite only game for, at the moment 5 players. The only thing that is spoiling our fun is the fact that the game crashes alot (5 times last night) we have tried with other players hosting the game, annoying that we keep having to restart from day 0 but the same issue occurs, whoever is hosting the game their system bombs out. Is this a known fault that will be addressed in the next update? is there another update due?

I am reporting and attaching the game clip when prompted to do so, as per one of the other threads that i have read.

Is there anything that I can do in the interim to lower the crash rate as although we are not loosing anything during the crash it is spoiling our experience of what we think is a great game.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If your PS4's are bombing out that fast, they are most likely overheating. Be sure to blow out the dust bunnies really well, and ensure that the unit has a very good amount of space around it for breathing. Sticking game consoles inside an entertainment center cabinet is usually a bad idea.

Thanks for the quick response, My PS4 Pro is new (just before xmas) and it is well ventilated, i will clean it out and put another fan on the back of it to see if that helps.

on a slightly seperate note, are there any planned updates, patches for the PS4?

Thanks.

Yeah, definitely check the airflow, because that is not normal.

As for dedicated servers, there is a Sticky thread on that here. Basically, not in the near future because the client is already pushing past the limit of what the console hardware is capable of.

I do sincerely hope that is is something we can eventually set up, and I will definitely be hosting when they allow it. I currently have hardware capable of supporting about 10 more 8-slot servers.

I have had the same exact issues with game crashes. So far every world I played that reached a certain point (100+ days with multiple bases on map) have crashed repeatedly.

The more you advance, build, explore and transform the map the more frequent you will crash. Also 4 player in game is a guaranteed crash in the making if you are somewhat advanced in your world.

I reached a point where we crashed every 20 to 30 min when there was 4 players in game on day 120+.

This really blows as the only real viable solution so far is to restart constantly and never enjoy end game or limit your actions (mostly building) while in game. Both solutions are bad. The game itself is great but the crashes make me want to play something different.

I get the argument that the console is already pushed to its limits. So why simply not reduce the size of the maps or take some useless stuff away and give us a game that will be able to support itself while playing. Dos the game need to go so deep or high? Would reducing the height and depth not help the system hardware?

Because of the unstable MP experience I have advised many people to pass on the console version and find another game. I wish I would have a different opinion but I cant promote a game that crashes all the time.

Dedicated Server console

I think it would be nice if we could host games on a console (with out being able to actually play on that console) and connect via another, the same way that Ark allows this, I understand that putting dedicated servers online may cost a fair bit but for the players like myself who already have access to more than one PS4 the initial option may be easy to implement?

the ability for my mates to log on while im not around and continue in the same game would be great, as at the moment they all have to wait for me to finish work, they could be fortifying and gathering ready for the hoards.

just a thought, thanks.

Update

Update

Yeah, definitely check the airflow, because that is not normal.

Just wanted to update on the system now as it stands, PS had an update last night, which I applied and I also fitted a 5 fan cooler to the back of my PS4 pro on top of that I now have it mounted on a laptop style cooling stand (very large fan underneath) in an attempt to cool the system and avoid crashes.

3 players last night including myself and only 2 crashes in a 4 hour period, the first one was after approx 2 1/2 hours and the second after 3 1/2 hours. (Days 21-25)

Im not sure if any of the measures mentioned above aided or if we were just lucky.

The one thing that we all noticed was that when we were working in close proximity to each other the system seamed to be really stable however as soon as we split up and went of in 3 different directions the first crash occured. IMO this points to the fact that PS has an issue drawing multiple entities in multiple locations however it seems to be able to cope with multiple entities in one location, or close(ish) proximity to the host.

thanks for the read and I hope that this may help in some way.

Hi Druid,

Thanks for providing your details and updating the thread, I'm glad you were able to reduce your crashes.

Some other things to note are the amount of lights you have in your game can increase the lag which can lead to crashes, so if you have a large number of toggle lights, torches, candles in your bases it might be a good idea to reduce them. Other players find tree farms (lots of trees growing together) near bases and excessive wooden spikes can also effect this.

Hopefully this helps, if you have any other issues or come across a particular thing / area that seems to cause the crash please let me know.

Clare
