Added Modes of Travel (Not Cars or Vehicles)

**DISCLAIMER** This is only a suggestion, it's possible this will never see the light of day in the game, but if it ever did, or has the chance, nothing in this suggestion is set in stone, and can always be adjusted a little** I don't know if this has been mentioned before in a different thread or post, but if it has I apologize. I know that in a future update, vehicles will be implemented, but my friend and I (Dances With Zombies) really think it would be not only awesome, but relatively strategic and add to the game if there were added modes of travel. We were thinking about bicycles, and I myself was thinking about scooters (the non-motorized AND motorized kind) or maybe even skateboards, and / or roller skates / blades. They could all drain stamina, thirst, and hunger at the same rate as running does, and all have a durability that decreases at a steady rate when in use as to not be overpowered. Of course you can repair durability. The exception is Motorized Scooters, which instead of Stamina, Thirst, and Hunger, would use Gas, which would drain fast, so as to also not be overpowered. Terrains Snow and Desert: None of them would work Forest, Pine, Plains: Only bicycles and the motorized scooters / mopeds would work. Motorized Scooters would be about 140-150% faster than running, and bicycles only 125% faster than running. Wasteland, Burnt Forest: All would work except skateboards. Motorized Scooters would be about 175%. Bicycles would be about 150% the speed of running, regular scooters only slightly faster than running, maybe 125%. Roads: Everything would work. Motorized Scooters would be 200% faster than running, Bicycles would be 175%, Non-Motorized Scooters would 150%, Skateboards / Roller Blades would be 125%. New Lootable Junk Items Tire: Scrapable into (2) Rubber Scraps Soap or Dishwasher Powder: Used as the Surfactant ingredient for Latex for Bicycle Wheels New Crafting Options Carpeted Floor: This is already in the game in creative mode (though I might have the name wrong) but would be added in MP/SP modes for the purpose of the use of houses as a carpet, and as a scrapable breakdown as the Latex ingredient requirement for bicycle tubes. Scrapable into (2) Carpet Scraps Skate Wheel Mold Bicycle Tube Mold Polyurethane: (Beaker) Latex: (Beaker) Scooter Tire Mold Aluminum Wheel: Made from 1 Forged Iron, used for the center portion of the Scooter Wheel for Non-Motorized and Motorized Scooter. Crafting & Repair Skateboards: (1) Wood Planks for the board (4) Skate Wheels ** The Skate Wheels would be crafted in a Skate Wheels Mold (since Skate Wheels are made out of polyurethane and require a mold, they would be crafted in a forge) ** The Polyurethane would be mixed in a beaker and a campfire. The ingredients would be Rubber (as this is an Isocyanate, one of the main ingredients needed for Polyurethane) and either Corn or Blueberries (these contain a natural polyol, the other main ingredient needed to make Polyurethane.) The Polyurethane would then be placed in the forge in the Skate Wheel Mold, and voila, Skate Wheels. 200/200 Durability, 1 Wood Plank repairs 1 durability. This requirement would mean that it would take 200 planks to repair it fully (assuming it was at 1/200 durability.) While that requirement may seem high, it really isn't considering how fairly easy it is to get logs. Besides, it's a faster way to travel, so the cost of repair should be higher than repairing a weapon or armor. Roller Skates / Blades (2) Cloth for the shoe portion (4) Skate Wheels Same as above, Inline skate wheels and old style roller skate wheels are made from Polyurethane as well. 200/200 Durability. 1 Cloth Repairs 4 Durability. Little less durability requirement, but it takes more time to gather cloth than wood. Bicycle (8) Metal Strips (2) Short Iron Pipe (1) Leather (for the seat) (2) Bicycle Wheels (2 Bicycle Tube + 2 Bicycle Tire) The tires for Bicycles (the outer shell, not the tube) would be made from 16 Cloth. The outside, is usually a cloth, and cotton has been known to be used. The tube portion would be made from Latex. Latex would be made from combining Carpet Scraps (some carpets contain styrene, and ingredient needed for Latex) and Dishwasher Detergent or Soap (which contains Surfactants, the other ingredient needed for Latex.) Like the Polyurethane for the Skate wheels, combine these ingredients in a Beaker to make Latex. Place in the Forge, which would contain a the Bicycle Tube Mold. 200/200 Durability (1) Metal Strip repairs 1 Durability. Again, cost is high. Non-Motorized Scooter (2) Forged Iron (4) Short Iron Pipe (2) Scooter Wheels (Scooter Tire + Aluminum Wheel) ** The Scooter Wheels would be crafted in a Scooter Wheels Mold (since Scooter Wheels are made out of Polyurethane and Aluminum (metal) mold, part of them would be crafted in a forge) ** The Polyurethane would be mixed in a beaker and a campfire. The ingredients would be Rubber (as this is an Isocyanate, one of the main ingredients needed for Polyurethane) and either Corn or Blueberries (these contain a natural polyol, the other main ingredient needed to make Polyurethane.) The Polyurethane would then be placed in the forge in the Scooter Tire Mold. The Scooter Tire would be combined in the crafting window with the Aluminum Wheel to make Scooter Wheels. 200/200 Durability (1) Metal Strips repairs 2 Durability. Since this is slower than the bicycle and can not travel on as many surfaces, the cost is a bit lower than the bicycle. Motorized Scooter (1) Lead Car Battery (1) Air Filter (1) Gas Can (2) Forged Iron (4) Short Iron Pipe (2) Scooter Wheels (Scooter Tire + Aluminum Wheel) ** The Scooter Wheels would be crafted in a Scooter Wheels Mold (since Scooter Wheels are made out of Polyurethane and Aluminum (metal) mold, part of them would be crafted in a forge) ** The Polyurethane would be mixed in a beaker and a campfire. 200/200 Durability (1) Short Iron Pipe repairs 1 Durability. Since this is the fastest non vehicle travel, this has the highest repair cost. Refueling. 1 Gas Can every 30 seconds of travel. This can be adjusted as needed if it's too high / low of a cost. Added Benefits to the Game While the obvious faster traveling is a benefit, there are already ramps in the game. My friend Dances With Zombies and I were talking in game and we think it would be sick to be able to build ramps to be able to jump over rivers, small buildings, maybe bigger buildings (with the Motorized Scooter or Bicycle ONLY if you have the Coffee Buff or maybe an added Energy Drink item thingy lol) and maybe things like crashing into zombies, added broken bone debuffs like arms, head, etc. Arms would effect your Gun / Crossbow accuracy or aim, the effectiveness of how many swings / hits it takes for weapons or tools, etc. Head would effect your vision, like maybe your screen is blurry or something, or you turn your mouse left and instead you go right, you push W for forward and instead you go backward, temporarily of course. You could get skinned limbs which would require a new medicinal item, Triple Antibiotic, which maybe could be liquefied from the existing antibiotics or made from Modly Bread, Potassium Nitrate AND Water in a Beaker. Just an idea. I researched a lot of the chemicals and ingredients to the things needed to make this and that when it comes to wheels, tubes, etc for this added element to the game, but I am no chemist, so if there is something better, please feel free to suggest. Thanks for reading!
I totally agree, bicycles wouldn't have to use electricity. Don't know how hard it would be for the dev's to produce this? but running around all the bioms is killing me.
Especially when looking for the new "supposedly fixed" *cough cough* army camps lol
I'm not against bikes but I'd rather have a horse. We already have hay and corn for feed. I'm tired of being on foot too so I hope they implement something soon.
Interesting idea. I like it. Of course there is always the danger of the horse starving, getting attacked, getting infected, etc. That adds a whole new element to the game without much needed extra work for the devs. I'd be okay with horses.

I completely advocate horses. Probably something like horses being similar to the other animals in game. You can hunt them for meat, but if you reach a high enough level, and with the right tools, you can catch them and in turn use them as a means of transport. Naturally, we'd have to feed them and look after them so that will be the "maintenance" cost for using them as transport =)

I must agree, Bikes and horses would be a nice way of traveling. Not only do you travel faster, but you still get to see some pieces of the environment and you are still vunerable for attacks (something that (most likely) isn't the case with cars). Since we are getting electricity, an electric scooter would also be a nice feature in the game. Drive around like crazy, discover fast, and die when crashing against a tree:tinfoil3:

I posted this in a different thread as a response so I'll copy paste it here. Here are some alternatives: -Hang gliders. Same as zip lines, just able to use them from any high place. Can break on landing, gives a reason to farm cotton for cloth. -"Teleport pads" unrealistic yes, but hear me out. Requires very rare materials and a required built structure. Since the map is infinite these would be a godsend. Could run on zombie parts for a one way trip giving purpose for "farming" zombies. -Flowing water + boat, floatie, raft et cetera.

Really, though, this is supposed to be immersion, realistic, people whine about the minimap and you think teleporting is going to fly? I myself want the option, the OPTION mind you, to enable the minimap, but come on, teleporting? Besides, they are eventually adding Steam Workshop support, so let people make an unofficial mod for that, not an official TFP patch release. If people REALLY want to break realism and immersion, go for it, but I feel a teleport pad would stray too far beyond the ideas and goals in which the developers are striving for.

Megales Sthenos, I agree with you on the teleport pads in hindsight. I was trying to word it as more as a "quick travel" thing, but you're correct, the idea just doesn't mesh. I'd just like to see long distance travel possible with the requirement of decient amount of effort. Perhaps you can lay train tracks down made from iron and make some sort of cart that travels a decient speed on it. Again, an infinate world is daunting to me (and all my friends like to randomly go in a direction for a couple of days and build there then yell at me to come see it).
Horses is a great idea ;-) They could perhaps feed themselves in grasslands and forests but not desert and wasteland. And if you don't feed them they die... and then they un-die. Then they come a knockin down your door.
I love it! "Hey, remember me? I'm the horse you forgot to FEED! The one you left to die to distract the zeds and save your sorry ass!" *tramples you to death* Add it so they can graze in transplanted grassland, like my tree farm in the ruined city. It's full of transplanted dirt and is covered with tall grass and flowers.

Or a span of Zombies to pull it :)
