Issue with Controller when not using default Steam folder

Hi all, first time posting here. Been having a problem with my ps4 controller not working when I load the game from any folder except the default one. I want to run modded and vanilla without resetting any files. I made multiple folders with modded versions and even using the 7DtD mod launcher which installs in another area completely I have the same problem.

If I change the folder name to vanilla "7 Days To Die" and place that folder in the default steam directory then the controller works. I've tried running the game through steam, Big picture mode, and the install location and the controller doesn't work.

I know few people use Controllers and hate them on PC so please don't say anything about that. I agree mouse and keyboard is better but I just can't play with m/kb as it's not comfortable for me.

Thanks for any help you can provide, Blade :)

My guess is it's because steam provides the PS4 controller integration.

So if the game isn't in the steam folder, then it wont pick up the controller properly.

Which means either learn to use a keyboard and mouse (which you really should be doing for this game anyway for better reaction times), or try an xbox controller as those drivers are built into windows.

EDIT: Actually, I forgot about this.

Emulates a 360 controller. That might work too.

No need for any third party stuff. Controller support is all built in to the game. Actually, running the game from Steam you should make sure that Steam doesn't use its own "PS4->Steam Controller" or "XB->Steam Controller" layer stuff (a setting somewhere in Big Picture).

The only thing where the game relies on being run from Steam's Big Picture mode is the virtual keyboard for entering strings into any input field.
