I really appreciate the recent flow of videos from Joel. They're long overdue, but I can appreciate from the perspective of such a large re-write of the games skeleton that it may have been near impossible to have a bug-free presentation up until now (note the latest video teaser showed zero gameplay, just changes to skills / perks menus).

 

To speculate with the awesome power of hindsight, I do wonder if it was a bad decision to take the update to Unity part way into this update to A17. Sure, it's meant fewer disruptions to users when the game (finally) gets updated, but I really think it would have been better to do the new 'skeleton' in the old, familiar version of Unity, and then to ship and update to the newer version, with all the texture stuff later on in the post A17e cycle.

 

All those new POIs, more challenging melee, all new perk/skill framework... it's going to seem like an all-new game once it finally gets released.

 

Query: Will the gyrocopter become the new way to escape engaging the hordes? Is it possible to shoot from the copter, or are your hands locked onto the controls?

I wonder if a friend with a leader skill buffs my fortitude, can my fortitude exceed 10? Or 10 is the maximum?

 

And what happens if 3 or 4 players all have the same buffs? Do you all become mega-buffed?

I'd be very surprised if the fuel consumption of a gyrocopter wasn't high enough to make a full night's flight unfeasible.

 

Knowing how helicopter controls work you'd be unlikely to be able to shoot a gun without spiraling out of control. A real helicopter requires both hands and feet to keep it under control and, according to the pilots, they're difficult to fly even in perfect conditions.

After watching Joels video about Intellect and seeing SMG-5, I don't see the items textual description, just the stats, will we be able to mod that back in, the custom descriptions for items?

So... I now know that fish taco's exist. Still not sure how I feel about that.

 

It does raise the question of whether you need canned tuna for it or whether my earlier suspicion that the aquatic biome has secretly had work done is correct.

 

That perk is all about taking canned foods and making something decent out of them. So you need a can of tuna for it.

10 is the max naturally, but drugs and mods and perks like CN can boost it over 10.

Art never has or never will hold up a release. Its always bugs and finishing up new content. So the switch to unity 2018 did come with its share of graphics bugs, but graphics are shippable now but we continue to improve the art while we finish things up for release.

Thanks for the quick reply, from the video it seemed like a condensed version of stats represented in a table format rather than hand written description like in the classic rpg games, that's more for lore and just a fun read.

Hammer and Forge levels 1 and 2 (forges and workbenches) are a must have, the player does not have an option here. So those points can be considered spend already.

The cooking branch looks way more optional in comparison.

Both can be found in the world still I assume but for solo players yes I agree most will grab those two perks.

Co-op/multi is where a specialisation system will really shine (obviously).

Not so. When the change was first made I had no idea and spent all my points on other stuff. Then when I went to make my forge I realized I would have to wait. But I found a working forge in a POI and the trader had a working workbench which allowed me to spend my next point on being able to build a bicycle instead and by Day 8 I had a bike to ride around on and I still never spent a point on the forge.

 

I'm not saying I won't spend those points most of the time but it definitely isn't a must do. Of course, those of us who were trained to play the game for weeks and weeks without a forge of any kind thanks to "Forge Ahead" (or more accurately due to its lack) don't blink when we don't have a forge by day three anyway :)

If you look to the right of the SMG you will see a bar graph and a book. In the screenshot the bar graph is selected which brings up the list of stats you can see. If the book was selected instead you would see the description you are wanting.

 

Of course the biggest question should be about the stat: RoundSperm-In-It!

I believe Subquake was referring to the old item descriptions, in MM's latest video the book icon was more detailed stats.

Too lazy to screen shot but 1:10 or so in the video.

I could have a lot of fun with this but it would be entirely too mean even for me. Fishing is NOT an A17 feature-- secret or otherwise. Under water terrain decorations have been added but it isn't really a secret as they have been visible in past videos and screenshots.

looks like you're right but that is surprising to me. Last time I checked the book was for description and the graph was for stats. My mistake!

Ok , if you can make fish tacos with the perk and canned tuna etc...we NEED to be able to make Jack in the Box tacos with a can of cat food! ;)
