No audio at all when EAC is off

Recommended Posts

This might be a bit long-winded as I'm pretty frustrated at this point.

So, whenever I launch the game with EAC disabled there is no audio whatsoever. It doesn't matter how I launch it, I get no sound unless I enable EAC then it works perfectly normal. The issue started when the game updated to 21.1 stable, this happened before when the game updated from 20 to 21 and I got it fixed then but unfortunately I forgot what I did and can't seem to find the articles/videos that worked last time.

To give a little background on my situation:

I'm running on Win 10, with a GTX 1060, 16 gigs of ram, an i7-7700, and on an ssd. At the time this happened I had 6 different game folders, 5 were still on some form of alpha 20 and one on alpha 21, with 4 games having an overhaul mod (darkness falls, UL, Age of Oblivion, and War of the Walkers), the 2 remaining were modded vanilla including the alpha 21 game (don't remember all the ones I had installed at the time), all single player. I had no issues prior to the update to 21.1 and had started a new game with the update before realizing that there was no sound.

My troubleshooting:

Did searches on here and on google and didn't find much that matched my situation exactly but got a few close enough. I tried adjusting sound system settings, device settings, and trying to update drivers, no fix there. Tried verifying game files and no issues detected. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no dice, tried several times more and by the end of all this about 15 times total. I deleted the 5 other game folders and tried reinstalling again. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Steam and still no change. At this point I said screw it and found a few small mods that were EAC compatible and started over. There were a couple other things that were suggested in my searches like messing with some admin stuff but also nothing.

So, it's gotta be something on the PC front that isn't compatible with some change they made in the update and I sort of have an idea on the issue based on the game logs but I have no idea what would need to be done. I assume it has to do with the FMOD error in the log without EAC though I know I didn't change anything on my end before the update.

If any more info is needed please ask and I'll do my best to provide.

Please help as I would really like to play Darkness Falls and other big mods and I'm at my wits end with all this.

Thank you.

That's interesting... I would have to look into this a bit more, I am curious. I did some searching, though, and found this old post and someone said they solved it by doing this:

"For anyone wondering, I fixed this problem by disabling all NAHIMIC processes in task manager.". Searching this, the process is called nahimicservice.exe. Found on a couple of brands of computers. Not sure if that's your case or not... if not, what do your audio properties look like? I wonder if it's something permission-related, since I think EAC would be using elevated privileges, so the game would be allowed to communicate. Inital thoughts, would have to dig a little further, but wanted to put them out here in the meantime.

If you're not sure how to get to the audio settings, here's windows 10:

  • Right-click on the volume icon on the taskbar and then click Sound to open the Sound dialog.
  • Under the Playback tab, right-click on your speaker and then click Properties.
  • You will see the Speakers / Headphones Properties window with different tabs, such as General, Levels, Enhancements, and Advanced.
  • You can adjust various settings for your speaker, such as the default format, the balance, the sound effects, and the exclusive mode.

Thank you so much! You are a god-sent miracle worker for me! 😆

Ending all the Nahimic processes worked immediately, wish I knew what changed/triggered this issue but at least I have a solution now.

Thank you again, I'm going to start a Darkness Falls run first thing tomorrow!

Nice!!! Glad that helped, it was a 10-year-old post so I wasn't quite sure if it would still be valid or not, I guess they've never patched that service 😅

You're welcome, I've had a large serving of strange, unique issues like such over the years in IT work so it helps in the oddball case like this lol. Have fun :D
