What happened to my drone

I don't remember where, when the drone was introduced, I remember praising it as the best companion out there.

It just worked. It followed. It stayed out of the way until needed.

 

WTAF! I mean who went and broke it and why?

When I need it, It is constantly getting stuck and @%$#ing off or humping a random wall, I feel like especially at the final loot room, when I need it most, it is no where to be found.

Otherwise it is in my face. If I am trying to build it is where I want to place a block. If I am trying to plant seeds, it is guaranteed to be in the fields.

Then there is the just getting lost and I don't realize until I am like 2k away and the console pops up full of errors and then I have to go through all kinds of @%$#ery to get it back or just try to remember what I had on it and cheat in replacements. This also is seeming to happen more and more frequently as the length of the game progresses.

 

Is it just me or is anyone else seeing this as well? The thing was rock solid when it was first introduced and now I am starting to feel like it is a liability.

Honestly it's always been like this. It feels like it's breaking more, but there's always been a chance, especially in a big POI, that you have to go find it, empty it, pick it up and put it down again to get it to follow properly.

Maybe I just had better luck then. I mean it doesn't even have to be in a T5, T3s it was happening to me a lot.

There are two different things going on with the drone.

 

1) The drone can get stuck in a POI and you have to work to get it following you again.  This would happen in A20 often but I could just step back and forth half a dozen times or so and it would fly through walls to reach me or would catch up eventually, especially if I left the area.  In A21, I've noticed it can get stuck and will not make any attempt to reach you unless you go up to it again.

 

2) The drone gets lost while driving a vehicle and throws a lot of errors, forcing you to replace the drone.  This is a new bug introduced in A21 and still not fixed as of A21.1.  I don't know yet if anyone has experienced it in A21.2.

 

The first is just a minor annoyance.  The second is much worse as it can cost you everything in the drone unless you remember what it had and use creative to get everything back.

This has just happened to me recently and truly frustrating...but even more is when I am almost to my desert base and my 4X4 starts going 10X the speed of normal and everything gets slow and choppy.  I used the biggest map so maybe this is the problem? Running a brand new Ryzen 7 3700X 8 Core 3.59GHz..

Not finding it is one thing, but when it actually glitches and causes the game FPS to drop to 5FPS, it breaks the game. I had to abandon a save because of it.

 

I just took a look at the list of known bugs and it is on there. Hopefully this one gets resolved ASAP, along with the bug that spawns you in the middle of nowhere when choosing to spawn near backpack.
