Switching a Ranged Weapon to have Melee function with a mod?

I am working on a mod that would allow the use of bayonets in the game. I am trying to figure out what the syntax would look like to allow a switch with a bayonet mod attached. My thoughts are use 'F', much like a flashlight, to switch the function from ranged to melee. I am struggling and thought I would check here to see if anyone has attempted something like this in the past.
