Dedicated server rendering distance issues?

Hi folks!

Today I rented a 7 Days to Die server on G-Portal to play with my friends. I set everything up, started the server and right after joined this is what i observed:

I have no clue why this is happening. The buildings are keep popping up right in front of me like the world rendering distance have on minimum settings. I didn't show it in the video but im sure about my game have every graphics settings that affects rendering distances set to maximum already. I tried reinstalling the server, same results. I checked the config and the log file on the server, it contains the following line:

GamePref.ServerMaxAllowedViewDistance = 12

Looks like to me max render distance is already set in the config, still this is what it looks like. This kinda sucks for me, so if i cant fix this, im gonna ask for a refund. 😕

On your server side log, look for a line that says something like this and note what the FPS is:

2023-01-03T13:43:34 1779101.658 INF Time: 29603.91m FPS: 34.02 Heap: 2267.2MB Max: 2580.1MB Chunks: 363 CGO: 22 Ply: 1 Zom: 1 Ent: 6 (468) Items: 0 CO: 1 RSS: 7470.7MB

I've had mine drop to low 20s, and it's not as bad as in your video, but had something similiar happen when it hit high teens FPS. (My server is on a Virtual Machine host that does all sorts of bursty loads). See thread here:

I have lines like this:

2023-01-03T11:44:55 779.129 INF Time: 12.78m FPS: 20.54 Heap: 1558.3MB Max: 1570.9MB Chunks: 306 CGO: 39 Ply: 1 Zom: 3 Ent: 6 (24) Items: 0 CO: 1 RSS: 2634.0MB
2023-01-03T11:45:25 809.146 INF Time: 13.28m FPS: 20.72 Heap: 1559.4MB Max: 1570.9MB Chunks: 306 CGO: 51 Ply: 1 Zom: 4 Ent: 7 (26) Items: 0 CO: 1 RSS: 2635.4MB
2023-01-03T11:45:55 839.186 INF Time: 13.78m FPS: 20.55 Heap: 1561.4MB Max: 1570.9MB Chunks: 306 CGO: 54 Ply: 1 Zom: 4 Ent: 7 (26) Items: 0 CO: 1 RSS: 2635.4MB
2023-01-03T11:46:25 869.191 INF Time: 14.28m FPS: 20.38 Heap: 1563.7MB Max: 1570.9MB Chunks: 306 CGO: 42 Ply: 1 Zom: 4 Ent: 6 (26) Items: 0 CO: 1 RSS: 2635.4MB

So assuming what you are linked, looks like it is something with the server performance?

Okay, turned out i was stupid AF... The rendering distance was decreased because there is an option in the Video settings called "Dynamic Meshes". Within there is a "Mesh Distance" option that affects the overall world rendering distance. It was set to 100 to me somehow, that means the world objects has rendered only within 100 meters. I upped it to 500 and the buildings just popped up immediately in the distance...

The low server side FPS problem still not on my side tho, thats for sure.

Otherwise the topic can be closed, my biggest problem was solved and it was my own fault... 😅

Interesting. Funny thing is, my first thought was that it was to do with Dynamic Mesh, as others have had the same issue you're having with it - except that instead of nothing, they get a very low resolution model until they get close. But I thought "Nah, that setting would only change how close you need to be before the low detail imposter gets rendered with high detail models, it shouldn't make them not appear until you get close."

Good to know though.
