Ideas for reasons to play the game. I need purpose!

So, after you get the grasp of the game, have your fill of zombie killing, make an impenetrable base then there isn't much reason to keep going. I've been playing since alpha 1 so I may be a bit bias. My ideas to add reasons to play. -Zombies drop something that is constantly needed, for example gold teeth fillings that can be sold, traded, circuits, etc. I have no reason to shoot/loot zombies after getting set up. -Big POI's always have a treasure. For example a factory will always have a room somewhere that has a magnum part. To add to this I think there needs to be zombies that don't bash blocks that can be used to guard areas. Make them faster, hit harder, but give a distinctive scream when you get close so you know to run away and come back all geared up. -Decorations **This is my most sought after. Unique, rare, placeable decorations that are found on zombies, loot. I would check every single zombie if they had a chance to drop a colourful disco ball that I can hang, or a photo frame to place. People WILL explore, kill zombies, roam around, and get excited when one drops. I would put so much effort into making my house zombie proof if i have my worldly possessions in there have have taken time to amass. -Zombie bosses POI, hard to kill zombies either few or large groups that guard something or drop something, for example air drops. To add to the frustration of these make it so they destroy backpacks that drop. You don't have to make some elaborate system that people can't abuse. Just make the loot something above average like pipe-bombs, coffee, decoration piece (see above). People will find these boss groups/boss zombie and build elaborate temporary defences and buildings to kill them. -Rare minerals, could utilise tungsten for this. Something to make better tools/weapons/blocks out of. Rare enough that you get excited finding them, but not too rare that you don't want to build a pick axe out of it because its super rare. Rare enough that it takes a long time to get enough to build a house out of them. You want these minerals to make things to make life easier. For example the claw hammer, could only be made with the rare minerals, a super tree trunk tip that does more damage than a twice upgraded tip. In closing, I love the game, but whenever I get a new friend to start playing they are always "what next, where to, what is there to do" and aside from the first time you see a horde there isn't much excitement.

Love the ideas! I especially like the idea zombie hordes gathering towards the airdrops. It makes sense the zombies would be attracted to the large sound the crates must make when they hit the ground and by the colorful smoke that marks their location.

Well except for the zombie bosses your ideas don't seem to have a long going effect. Another tier of tools or more decorations will only prolong the game for a short time. In my opinion the survival aspect has to be built on massively so people don't have a 100% secure base and more medicine, food and water than they could use in 100 ingame days. Our main objective should be surviving, no matter how far into the game. To achieve that there needs to be stuff to look for constantly. I play with no loot respawn what forces me to move to unexplored areas more often in the beginning. As soon as I have a self sustaining, 100% secure base I often quit and stop playing for multiple weeks (most of the time until next patch..).
Love the ideas! I have some hopes something like that might be implemented with the next patch where pathing and spawning of zombies will be improved.

Great ideas, though I cant see random zombies carrying worthwhile decorations. But buildings? I would love a reason to keep exploring after I've completed my fortress. The end game for any post apocalyptic building game would be rebuilding. A late game goal could be the ability to completely eradicate the zombies from a region of the map. This could be done by finding and clearing zombie hives around the map - an impossible task for those without a steady supply of bullets. Yes it would make the game dull in the cleared areas but once you reach that point in the game, its about time to call it a job well done and start again. That or build a new base closer to a still infested area and continue clearing.

When I built a base I then made a walled in town now when ever others join my map I offer shelter and used tools , like "The Walking Dead's" Governor but nicer. I always have to hunt zombies since brass is something I always need and as my stores get more full I build more storage or better storage. I then start to build underground highways that settlers can use to travel to other areas underground to forage. The occasional griefer cost a lot of ammo to repel and then the resulting hordes from the noise cost ammo and then damage require repairs. I'm always prepping for visitors. After the Zombie defenses I start thinking human defenses.

Maybe recruitable NPC's would require you to expand your base and seek out resources the NPC needs to give you a buff. Maybe that personal electricity generator is not enough and you need to join a faction to capture and hold a power station. Maybe you want that high end gear and need the right factory with the right heavy machinery to craft it. The list could go on.

Hi all, The game is really something ! IMHO the best zombie game someone can ask for. However as soon you got underground your main trouble is over. I had built a roof of Metal Trussing on a flat surface in the desert area and was doing my stuff 2 blocks beneath it and the zombies where all over the roof dancing around with feral option on but could not get to me, so I enjoyed the view ;) between me and them only the metal trussing. Sure still I had to collect some water and food, Ammo and running away from dogs (which are really cool ) but the main struggle of surviving building and maintaining a shelter faded slowly away. For that reason I would like to suggest to give the zombies or at least some of them the ability to penetrate flat surfaces as well ! Let’s view this point a bit closer shall we, before any great base builders here will start throwing rocks at me. If the zombies see you ( direct view ) like in my play they should start digging at once. Perhaps give it the possibility to spawn the police guy as well so he could assist in such circumstances. If you have reached 60% of the depth to the bedrock you should be able when being quiet to elude the zombies so they won’t start coming after your base. However things like using a forge, gunfire or mining will alert them if they are close to your location. Finally if you have reached 90% to the bedrock depth level you should be able to do as you please without being disturbed except the use of TNT. Keep in mind this approach is not so bad as it may seem to some since you can also adjust the option of The zombie spawn rate. If you’re playing on normal spawn rate things should be ok for you and as more higher you choose it so harder it becomes to build a proper base and to reach the deepest depth. Not to mention to find and construct all the tools needed for that task. This should prolong the game and keep it interesting, and for the die-hard fans play without air drop new item spawn and set zombie activity to very high and it could take forever to build that cool secure base of yours.:) Have fun and take care people
Sure still I had to collect some water and food, Ammo and running away from dogs (which are really cool ) but the main struggle of surviving building and maintaining a shelter faded slowly away.
That's a great point. On PVP you always have the attraction of creative/destructive minds others... but it can get stale playing solo. The Cop Zombie does damage from afar... having them escalate in numbers ? and/or make the Wasps able to chew at materials from sides and tops of structures. Small Radar Blips indicating interest points.... Once you get the archaic vacuum tubes and tv screen in sync... you can use your 'radar screen' to find items, survivors (rescue mission), maps, materials, Horde Base Locations (must get to, and destroy an artifact or the Hordes will intensify), turn on/off remote pipeline gas valves or and underground (and hidden) pipe blows your base wide open, talk with the outside world and 'try' to get them to AirDrop certain items ( you do THEM a favour... they send you a requested item you just CANT find )...

All are very good ideas indeed. We do indeed need purpose behind a game, it can't be just about crafting and killing simple zombies here and there if the game truly does want to live up to it's goal of being the best zombie game out.
I like your ideas, but who carries a disco ball around? XD
Nobody, but there could be a POI that is a dance club that has disco balls and more importantly lighting. But they could go further and add bar stools and high tables that you could break and take. Would also like to see a sort of bath house where there are quite a few lockers with chances to spawn clothing. Maybe a sewing factory where you could find books on how to make armors. The ideas are endless... TFP just has to like some enough to implement.

Thank CongoBongo, you get it! I love you ideas and perfectly embody what I'm looking for. I just want a reason to go explore rather than "oh, another house, some more food, some ammo, well that was...uneventful." I play with people who, including myself, would love to decorate, proudly shout out over mumble "I just found a shower curtain" and then we visit each others bases and go "oooo.. ahhhhh"
