karenheit451
If you break a leg and treat it with a splint or cast, you can move without penalty. Not so for sprains. There is no treatment - just a 7-8 minute movement penalty, which is weird. Shouldn't a sprain be a lesser injury than a break? How it is now, though, it's worth taking a sprain and breaking it, so that it can be treated and the movement penalty removed. Perhaps the FPs could rebalance the injuries? Introduce a strap for sprains? Or maybe make the splint for sprains but breaks require a cast or special splint?

You still have a penalty for movement and jumping with a splint or cast leg. Hard movements (like running and jumping) still add time to the healing time whether it is splinted, casted, or just sprained. A sprain leg subtracts 0.15 from the mobility variable and 0.04 percent from jump strength. A splint leg subtracts 0.15 from the mobility variable and 0.06 percent from jump strength. Cast legs are 0.1 and 0.09 respectively. You can move faster with a leg that has a cast on it, but you are still slower than if you were fully healed. In addition, a sprained leg injury lasts 10 minutes (no perks to reduce time) to heal while a cast leg takes 25 minutes. When I get a sprain, I try to take it easy for the next 10 minutes so it heals faster. Edited July 27, 2022 by BFT2020 (see edit history)
Syphon583
I know it's all about balancing the penalty between the two injuries, and while a broken limb with a cast still heals slower than just a sprained limb, I've always found it a little weird there is no way (AFAIK) to treat a sprain. Would be nice if you could use non-medicated bandages to wrap the limb which could cut down the time to heal by a small percentage. I know that would give me more of reason to use those bandages rather than scrapping them.
karenheit451
Thanks BFT2020 that's helpful. I'm sure you're correct about the math. So my reaction must be a subjective player experience thing. I don't notice movement penalties when running on a splinted leg - I do notice on a sprain. Maybe there are sound fx on the sprain like player grunting noises which draw attention to it? Also I notice the sprain heal time extending (which is fair enough but annoying). I still reckon it would be a good idea to have some way to heal a sprain - agreeing with Syphon583. 🙂
BFT2020
I have seen a mod where they introduced an ice bandage for sprains. Sprains I think are the only injuries that you can't use a health item to improve on. It's definitely more noticeable with sprains if you are just comparing running. If you are jumping, it is noticeable with casts.
