New Item Idea: Shareable "Map"

This idea came as the result of friends joining a newly created random gen map. I would be playing the map for about an hour or so and would have a large portion of the world mapped. I would then setup a primary base some distance away from where I spawned. My friends would then join and spawn in a completely different location. After some fumbling by giving map coordinates we are able to meet up but can't share our map data with each other. I was thinking i wanted to share him where this road led to a forest biome but couldn't as its not on his map and can only give info and coordinates. In real life I could draw a map in a piece of *paper*. Oh look at that, *paper* is already an item in the game, so half way there. In my brainstorming, I would need to create a drawing/writing device, a crude pencil. I was thinking spare lead or another metal could be turned into pencil lead and a stick would make up the body of the pencil. It might be a one time use consumable per map. Once paper and pencil is crafted, you would stack those in the crafting boxes and create a map. Either the entire map knowledge or a subsection per map consumables. Depending on how you want to configure the resources to make it more challenging. Once the map is created, you would drop the map for your friend, the friend would pick it up and read it like a book to obtain the other friends map knowledge and vica versa. Thoughts? Interests in idea? -Tyler

I talked about this too, if my friends would get benefit of my unmapped areas also, but shaded. I also like the idea of areas you have already been not being opaque on your map until you mouse back over them, but have them shaded like in some RTS games.

I support this idea. It would be nice to make a map item that has moderately hard ingredients to get (so you don't spam share maps, perhaps paper, ink, feather, red flower, yellow flower) that you can give to another player and they learn it like a book.
