Far fetched idea(s)

Ok so MM mentioned somewhere recently that auto-turrets of some fashion were being considered. Although I love the idea that defending our forts will become a little less tedious, the idea of an automatic turret doesn't seem to fit here (at least the kind that I'm imagining) Rather than have some sort of weird post-apocalyptic machine, why not make these "turrets" a character model npc that has limited mobility (at least to begin with unless the Devs are really ambitious). I'm thinking something like - you go for a loot run in the hub city or some other difficult POI and you hear an NPC yelling for help. You bust your booty and "save" the npc - he/she/it thanks you and there could be a chance they offer to join you- you would say "sure why not, bro" and then the npc runs off into the horizon (and despawns). Or, you could have to escort this character back to your base. Once at your base, there could be a designated block type that you could use for flooring that would create a pathway for these NPC's, or they could act as invisible "leashes" so that these NPC's don't wander too far away.. They *could* require a certain amount of sleep (making use of the many extra beds or sleeping bags that I've horded for some reason) and obviously a certain amount of water and food to sustain. You would be able to arm them (making use of the guns and ammo I've managed to stockpile). Much like you can set doors/chests to be locked or unlocked, you could set these NPC's to fire at will, or to only fire when mobs are within a certain distance, or if they are agro'd. These NPC's could also yell out little canned warnings like, "OH EM GEE there's a horde coming bro!" during the day (because at night that would make daddy mad). It could be taken a step further, you could name them, and they could gain exp over time to make them more accurate, faster, etc. Or even further yet, they could be sent on hunting or loot runs where they run off into the distance and despawn and based on their level/experience and armament there would be some percentage stat that would dictate success or failure, or whether they get hurt or killed. If you didn't feed them or if you deny them rest, they could be like "nah bro, I'm outie 5000" leave you all by your lonesome. Anyway.. the section is "Pimp Dreams" and I am a dang dreamer, dangit.
