Can't change CPU Affinity for 7daystodie.exe

Has anyone found a way around this? I don't want a Randomly Generated World to eat EVERY part of my processor, I'd still like to use my computer..

That linked thread is regarding the inability to set CPU Affinity when using EAC.

 

Map generation will only eat up CPU cycles when you are below the recommended spec GPU. 

 

I would need to test this in a20 to see if there is any difference, but your current issue is most likely a result of a low-end PC. That's something you will have to come to terms with.  I'm just making wild guesses though since you did not provide any detailed information.

i9-10850k, 32gb ddr4 3600mh, gtx 960 2gb. (As you need i guess)

 

Now to continue with the general support question, is there no way to change affinity with the EAC.exe? (Like title says). The issue with the gpu is irrelevant if I'm able to change affinity with the non EAC version, i can change it in the non-EAC version (which your thread says i should specify).

Run the client without EAC to generate your map.

960 is low-end these days. I have a 970 and 980 Ti in their boxes behind me, beneath a pair of GTX 1070's in their boxes (along with a high-bandwidth SLI bridge), I run a 2080 Ti, and the 3080 Ti and 3090 are the big-boys now. Your CPU is actually a basic desktop one too, and it only supports up to DDR4 at 2933MHz, according to Intel. Look at the X series, they tend to be overkill.

 

Why are you trying to set affinity though? Is it not using all your cores by default?

I think it IS using all of his cores, and clocking them up to 70-90% load. By setting affinity he can leave a couple of cores free for other tasks.

 

Performance-wise, the 960 is just fine. It just lacks the VRAM the client requires.  At a guess, it's probably taking him about 40 minutes to make a map with that setup, and he'd rather to other things on the PC instead of doing other things somewhere else.

OH I was thinking that he wanted to make it go faster by using more cores. OK. I've never messed with affinity. The few times I did it resulted in worse performance, but in his case that makes sense.
