Game crashes

I am currently running a18.4 on my computer, have the latest directx installed and when I go to launch the game it crashes the computer and I have to to a hard restart.  My other games run fine, ark, vega, eve, etc.

What do I need to do?

P.S.

The reason for 18.4 is my buddy and I are on day 150ish and we want to get as far as we can before we go to 19, we are only able to play for a few hrs on the weekends

The game creates a logfile that contains stats about your system and what happens during the launch of the game. It may show hints what's wrong.

If you append that logfile here, somebody may see an issue.

Your initial post contains zero to nothing information, so everybody can just start wierd guessing.

If you aren't getting to the loading screen, then it's either GPU driver, or you're using the incorrect renderer.

Based on your hardware, ensure that it is set to use DirectX from the launcher. Then perform a clean install of the latest GPU driver.

The logfile has one line that is a bit suspicious: "Calling Play on 0" directly before the game shuts down again. Maybe someone else knows more about it.

I assume you have played this world for a long time and suddenly this problem appeared. Was anything changed on the PC directly before that event. Did you install a new driver? Change a (windows, 7d2d, antivirus or any other) config? Installed A19 for a test and changed back? Created a new world? Installed another game or software? Added hardware? Installed a mod and removed it again?  Changed the settings in the nvidia graphics driver to accomodate 7D2d or a different game?

Was the game exited through a crash or power outage the last time?

Do you see suspicious lines in the event log of windows?

If nothing comes from this: The game actually reads information from the local generated worlds, saves and configs and could crash from invalid information there. So move everything in "C:\Users\Alastair\AppData\Roaming/7DaysToDie/" to somewhere else and restart the game. If this succeeds, shut the game down and add the top data files and start again. If this succeeds, add one of the worlds and start again. If you have added all the worlds and starting still succeeds, continue with adding one saves after another. Once you are finished with this you should know which world data or savegame is responsible for the crash.

If restarting the game does not succeed even though you moved everything away it is time to clean the rest of your config. Start the game launcher through steam, go to the tools tab and clear all the configs. Since you moved your worlds and save games this will not delete them but for example whatever you set in the options menue.

I built a brand new pc, I copied the files from above file from old pc to new pc, still crashes before loading screen for main menu, and yes we have played this world for 132 days and want to continue.  Crashes in 18.4, the world we want to continue, and 19.3.  Just did a clean install, again, for gpu drivers, still crashes at same point.  I've never had any problems playing this on my old pc

So you created that world in 18.4, and tried to load it in 19.3 once? That might have f**** up your map. I assume you did not have a backup, before anybody tried to load it once in 19.3?

Never ever even try to load a map created in a previous major versions with a newer major version if you want to continue playing them.

@Liesel Weppenno, that is not what i tried, that is the world that we want to continue in, as i have stated before, i tried to load into 18.4, crashes BEFORE THE MAIN MENU LOADS, tried to load into 19.3, SAME THING HAPPENS

1) The game reads in local savegames BEFORE THE MAIN MENU LOADS. I can't really imagine a sensible reason why it would also write to them at this time of startup, but I can't completely rule it out (for example it could be done for telemetry purposes). And it definitely is possible that a corrupt save game folder can prevent startup.

2) The output log you supplied shows that a game world was successfully started and ran for 7 minutes. Are you sure this is the right logfile and you did not reach THE MAIN MENUE? The logfile starts January 19th at 22:59 and ends at 32:10

3) You are aware that Liesel is not payed for doing this, he is just a player like you and me? People who give advice in "General Support" often deal with multiple cases in parallel. They will miss some details, especially when the information has to be extracted from the reporter in multiple confusing sessions. I know you are frustrated by the game not running, but you would be well advised to keep the people trying to help you on your good side.

4) Instead of doing the experiment I suggested and see what happens you believe you know it better and instead argue. Are you sure you know better?

I'm only slowly really getting the facts from your description by the way. Are you saying that the game only ever worked on the old PC and it NEVER started up on the new one? Which files from the old PC did you copy over?  The game folder and the savegame? Or did you install the game through steam again and just copy over the game folder?

Yes I'm Frustrated with this problem and I dont mean to sound rude or condensending.

In responses to....

1-there are no game saves in the game saves folder (new pc fresh install of 7d2d)

2- ill check make sure on the lod files

Its worked fine on old pc, I have copied the old files frome old pc but have not put them in the game file location yet (want to make sure game works before I do that), and I did install through steam

Ok. It would be interesting to get a brand new logfile as well. I.e. do this:

1) From steam right-click on the game, "Properties", "Local Files", "Verify Integrity of game files"

2) Start the game now and try to start a new Navezgane world if you get that far. Post that logfile and tell us exactly what happened, i.e. how far you got, whether you saw the main menue, whether you started a Navezgane game, whether the game just vanished or showed an error message.

One thing to check is that everything is properly installed on your computer, meaning hardware and software.  The hard crashed followed by the hard reboot indicates to me you have a conflict somewhere - typically if a program crashes you can close it without locking up the OS.  If it crashes and you can’t pull up the task menu, you would need to open up a new desktop and launch it from there.

I built a new computer just this past November and Alpha 19.3 has been running like a dream for me with no issues.  Meganoth’s suggestion is a good one, lets go back to the beginning and take baby steps to try and root cause your issue.  I been down that road before (I been building my own computers since 2001) and I can’t count how many issues I have had that were traced back to either a hardware issue I missed or a bad install when I was setting things up.  Also post your new computer specs, maybe we can see something there.

was able to get to main menu once, but was glitchy then crashed, since then wont get past the launching screen where its loading easy anticheat before it crashes, i have uninstalled and force reinstalled easy anticheat, uninstalled and reinstalled steam and still getting the same results

this is the log of when i was able to get to the main menu

@BFT2020 all, i mean all of my other programs and games work 100%, i have been building my computers since 1998

Is there a graphics card/directx conflict causing the crash?  I know you said ark works fine but the game engines are not the same. Do you have any other games that use the Unity game engine?

I never had the 1080 gpu so I don’t have a clear understanding on what features of Directx 11 that it doesn’t support.

Ok that log went nowhere fast.

Rust is barely even voxel-based, so saying you can play rust is like taking your car to the mechanic for a problem and telling them that your motorcycle runs just fine.

Exclude the client from your antivirus, and then verify the files twice. Instructions are in the Pinned FAQ.

Lots of games use the Unity engine. A large portion of them aren't voxel based at all.

Rust only uses voxels for your building structures. It doesn't have a fully 3D Voxel terrain mapping structural integrity of every one of the thousands of blocks that are loaded around the player. It's not drawing 30,000+ textures in your field of view at any given point in time. It's only doing maybe a few hundred.
