SxR
I'd love it if Shovels when right clicked, would pat the ground with the underside, smoothing the terrain where patted to look natural again, getting rid of blocky, jagged edges. It's hard filling blown up / dug dirt when you fight Zombies, it never fills properly.
stample
you can drop frames on it to smooth it out, as long as you want the ground at block-top height. If you could smooth to surrounding terrain, that'd be great! If it reaaaally bugs you and you don't mind the tedium, you can punch the dirt to alter the height slowly until its where you want it. Diragor
I'm always playcing plates on the ground to get it smooth but you can't build on them (you can but thats levitating and I don't like it. Also I wish for dirt blocks to attach to square blocks cause it annoys me when I place blocks in the ground and around it there is this wedge. dirt should auto attack to blocks

If they ever add a (non-cheating) terrain smoothing feature, I agree that this 'shovel pat' would be a great place to have it.

I’d noticed that A19 added new tools in Creative Mode (cheat mode) that look like they manipulate the terrain. I haven’t used them yet though, so I’m not sure if they qualify as a terrain smoothing feature or not. So I said “non-cheating” in case someone wanted to argue that TFP already added a terrain smoothing feature, in Creative Mode.
Liesel Weppen
Oh, ok. I considered cheating as.... cheating. Like obtaining an advantage besides of official game mechanics.
Lemmers
This, along with an option to pat terrain blocks flat where they meet building blocks, would really improve the aesthetics of base building.

Liesel Weppen
I thought you had some ideas how the padding itself could be abused to cheat. If it can't there is no reason to add it to the regular mechanics, not just to the creative menu. Also just enabling the creative menu i do not consider cheating. It depends on what you do with it. We also used it to decorate our base, e.g with destroyed blocks that can't be crafted (or bought) ingame. That imho is not cheating. If you use the CM to stock up your ammo supply, THAT is cheating. But it requires a player to have self control, to use such stuff from the creative menu but not abuse it. From many comments across the whole forum here i consider, many people don't have the necessary self control to do that.
walkingwounded
I really like the idea of using a shovel's right-click to 'fill' in the edges where the ground meets the blocks (I almost never use the power swing for digging). Maybe add a small resource cost based on the block targeted. Nothing like mining a bunker and 'denting' the ground with a careless swing. ...Fudge!... Another option would be a special (new) block, call it 'infill', that when placed on the ground causes the block underneath to be made "whole" and flat on the top (and raise/meld the edges of adjacent blocks) then disappear, this would require some resources to make, which would be consistent with the resource aspect of the game (maybe just sand). Would require some coding to ensure it does not make square edges where it should not. Really, I think only the terrain blocks would need this (soil, stone and ore), but even if it would only work on soil I'd be pleased.

Did you know you can repair damaged soil or stone blocks with a repair tool? It doesn't help for getting a smooth slope, but you can get flat floors, walls, and ceilings this way.
