Need some help with new terrain ore/resources for mining

Hi guys

I need some help with some questions I have.

1) I have added some new terrain resources/ores underground for mining, but I can only use colors/textures for already existing resources/ores.

Im really a noob about this and I have tried changing settings in texture and Map.Color for the new blocks, but it have no effect.
B. How can I change/make new texture/colors for resources underground?

2) I like to spread the different terrain ore/resources at different depth underground.
I see there is something about layers in biomes.xml, but all numbers are low so it don't make sense to me.
I also like to make layers underground like in minecraft, in that game layers get harder the longer down you dig.

C. So How can I spread ores/resources in different depths underground?

Example: Here I just made many copies of terrStone with different HP, and added different ores at different depth

As said I dont really understand the layer system and its numbers, anyway I made this as an example, will something like this work properly?

Spoiler
