Linkdark
Hello, i was playing 7 day to die and my computer shut down. Now when i try to join, cant find it in "continue game" I find in my document my game with my character. But when i create another map, changing with the previous, with the character. I start lvl 1 day 1, with no gear no exp and stuff. But i'm on the map i already know and played. What happend? Any idea?
Jugginator
When a game is near-constantly saving, there's a risk that when the computer is suddenly shutdown/powered off the game's saving at the same time, corrupting the file. In the same folder the game saves are in, there are backups (with the .bak extension). Remove the .bak and try using them.
Linkdark
That doesnt work. I dont understand what's happend. I deleted all the bak. And now i dont understand nothing. 7 day dont see the game when i try to load my save... i'm quit pissed off now. I just loose 100H just bc my computer Shut down? That's a joke? SylenThunder
No joke. It's what happens when files are in use, or being written to, and you shut down/kill the program. You'll want to verify your OS system files for any corruption as well, and troubleshoot the reason your system shut down unexpectedly. There are instructions in the Sticky FAQ on possible methods for restoring a corrupted save, but if they don't work you're SOL. Fix your issue with your PC, as this isn't a game problem. Jugginator
Yeah it's always a good idea to back up saved games. Although I admit I really can't remember a time I've been playing on PC I've had a 7 Days save file corruption... Consoles on the other hand.... Linkdark
Yeah said like that u've right. I was angry for nothing. My bad, i've a problem with my computer. It's not the fault of the game. But i think it will be a good idea to implemente a record save every 3min? (maybe? idk?)
Jugginator
I'd be angry too, haha. I am not sure if you can safely copy the save files while still playing that saved game, but you certainly can go back to the main menu, say, every 30 minutes to an hour or whatever you feel is right and back them up then. To be safe, I would make a backup before you launch the game when you plan on playing, just in case this happens shortly after you start.

This isn't like other games where saves are only a few megabytes of data. What you're requesting is for the game to periodically duplicate several gigabytes of data on your drive. A feature like this would tank gameplay on most low-to-mid-end machines, and would definitely cause pause every few minutes on high-end machines. It would almost be like playing a modern game on an Xbox 360 and would basically freeze every time it does the save. Plus not everyone has the hard drive space to repeatedly duplicate 30GB+ of data. How large the save is depends a lot on how you play it, how dense the map is, how much building is on it. They're smaller than they used to be, but I have had single saves in the range of 12-30GB. With a very large base build just the region file for that area was almost 12GB. The game client automatically is set to reserve 30GB space for the saves when you start the game. Beelzybub
@SylenThunderok thanks, good to know. All of my saves are very short. I don't think any go past 7 days. And not much building either beyond a basic one room base.
