Loevgreen
Curious to hear peoples opinion on this. Personally I don't like it at all. Maybe it would be ok if limited to scopes/snipers, but in general I think it's a miss from TFP. What say you all?
JCrook1028
I'd prefer your aim to suffer as you held longer to simulate shaking from holding so long. But I can live with it as is. I agree in having a penalty for staying in aim mode for too long.
FileMachete
I'm pretty much with @JCrook1028 on this one. Now how much stamina it takes is another matter. I've used a modlet to adjust before. Can't say anything about a19 but 18.4 felt mostly right, at least after you're specc'd up a bit. The ones that this mechanic bit should impact the most are the primitive and 'Wooden'(?)(the recurve, not the compound) bows. Drain for those was too low last time I checked. Problem for this in a19 might be the changes to food. Think it was meganoth who mentioned he'd been burning up food due to his using zoom a lot with a bow. Ghostlight
Once again the Stamina balance is off. I have 3 points in Sexy Rex and I am constantly out of stamina mining with a level 1 Iron pickaxe. Not good. Incredibly frustrating. Surely this is not the gameplay you want TFP? Drinking teas and eating doesn't help one bit, and wouldn't have been a solution anyway. You should start reading the forums to not bring up what was already reported thousands of times. 🙄 However sex rex 3 made me last relatavely long with iron tools. I still run out of stamina, but at least i can chop down three 1200 trees before i run out. And drinking is the solution to this. But teas afaik don't buff stamina regen, also most food does not increase stamina regen. What you need is coffee. Or maybe steroids. Megacrush also gives stamina regen iirc. Imho pretty well balanced. You shouldn't be able to mine all day without even running out of stamina. If you want to buff it further, effort ist required... like making and drinking coffee. Ghostlight
I'm mining. Compare it to cutting down a hundred 1200 hp trees in a row. All drinks say they replenish stamina but it makes little difference. Will try coffee later. A18 did not have this issue.
Guest
I'm not necessarily happy with this alpha either, but at least try to play a little before coming here to complain because it's different from what you're used to? Roland and the other TFP defenders (err.. mods) already have a habit of dismissing complaints with "you just want it to be like A18", don't give them more reason to do so, please. All drinks give a short stamina regen boost afaik, with coffee, beer and megacrush offering a longer buff. Red tea and filtered water (the kind you find in water coolers) make it so that you build up less hunger while swinging away at things. If you plan to use sledges or heavy tools intensively, you will have to either stock up on those or accept that you'll get hungry quicker (which leaves you less stamina to work with). It's a pretty big difference in my experience, at least early on. Also, just to be sure: power attacks are terrible for mining purposes. (edit: I'm not entirely sure but I think armor penalties may apply as well, which could make a big difference if you're wearing heavy stuff without the perks) It's a little too heavy on the micromanagement imo, but it's definitely doable. Your mileage may vary if you want to do a ton of mining in early game which will be harder if you haven't stocked up on the aforementioned resources indeed. But if you have 3 points in Sex Rex and an iron pick, you should be able to mine quite a bit.
Ghostlight
I know I should. That's why I'm complaining. 3 points in Str and 3 in Rexy are a major investment for day 4 that has not payed off.
Guest
I mean, combined with the other stuff that's meant to interact with stamina. If you want to do everything without consumables while wearing unperked heavy armor, good luck convincing TFP of your cause, lol.

Just to be clear, the increased food usage when mining is fine. I'm used to that. It is the fact that I have to stop swinging every minute and wait 30 seconds for Stamina to regain that is the issue. canadianbluebeer
ergonomic grip? 3 SR and iron tools not much of a problem, I just walk between trees instead of run. 4 sexrex, coffee, and I can mine non-stop until the coffee runs out. (and with the book for extra goodies when buzzed on coffee.. nice) try coffee then lotsa chopping. (at least coffee has a use now, and there's tons to be found even before getting a farm going)

The drinks say, they replenish 15% stamina ONCE you drink them, so if you have 100 stamina, it will regain 15 stamina points once. Coffee buffs stamina REGENERATION over 2 or 3 minutes. And that is not new in A19, it was already this way in at least A18.
pApA^LeGBa
Well with coffe and sexy rexy 3 i can mine pretty good. Why do you need such an intense amount of mining that early? If it is for cobblestones, you should rather dig them up at poi´s. Those blue pallets. Btw, if you have sexy T-rey at 3 on day 4, it´s no wonder your loot sucks. FranticDan
I personally don't even bother with iron tools until they are at least quality 3. Quality 5-6 stone axe does a better job until then. Also the pickaxe you're using may have rolled poorly for stamina use

Liesel Weppen
You're right. I took a closer look. Interesting result: Water increases stamina regen from 10 to 11.5. So 15% like the description says. But it lasts only as long as the water timer tickes down, so ~30-40s? (buffhealwatermax) Coffee increases the stamina regen from 10 to 12.5 and adds buffhealwatermax (drink ticker) and buffcoffee (3min). buffhealwatermax adds 15%, buffcoffee adds 20% if buffhealwatermax is not active and 10% if buffhealwatermax is active. So while the drink timer ticks down it increases stamina regen by 25% and after that for the rest of the 3min it still increases by 20%. It seems not a big difference from the numbers but from gamplay imho it makes a big difference. You have 10sta/s... there seems to be no skill improving this (sex rex does not increase stamina regen, but reduce stamina usage with tools). However wearing armor reduces that value. Since both water and coffee buffs are percentual values, their effect is lower if the stamina regen is already reduced, e.g. by wearing (heavy) armor. So the final optimization would be: Use (blackstrap) coffee and take off your armor. Edit: Did some testing with interesting results: https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/20508-a19-b169-bug-stamina-calculation/
Gazz
People still seem to be wondering about armor stats. I recommend the journal entry that explains those in greater detail.
SenpaiThatIngnoresYou
I have found that the best way to mine is to drink a beer and drink a coffee. This negates the stamina loss quite a bit. there is even a perk book that removes the drunk effect on the screen.

If you're wanting to mine with iron tools without needing to stop on D4 you're dreaming. That is absolutely NOT the direction the Devs (or me for that matter) want the game to go. So, the only answer for you is..... wait for it..... you're not gonna like it..... mod it.
Theodryck
There's balance, and then there's an anchor around your neck. Alpha 19 is more like the latter. It's just so damned grindy and boring at times. I don't mind the new loot tables (although finding stone age tools made in modern times before the apocalypse is a stretch) I love the new zombie AI and the fact that conga lines are a thing again. But the stamina/food thing is ruining this entire Alpha. I know there are people who will defend anything the pimps do with their last dying breath, but when you're level 50 and a level 4 iron pick axe is significantly better than a comparable level steel pick axe (say level 3-5) then something is seriously off. And until that is fixed, these types of threads will keep popping up over and over...as they should.

Tahaan
It is a pain, but I think it is ok. My friend and myself have just tunnelled a 3-wide, 5 high tunnel about 130m long through a "ridge" that we keep having to go over between our base and the trader so that we can have a smooth ride there. We worked for one in-game day (120 minutes), starting with Level 4 iron picks and ending with level 5 when we managed to make those. We drank a lot of black-strap coffee, and still ran out of stamina.... but it was in fact OK. I actually feel more proudof it because we had to work for it and it was difficult and took commitment! Oh, and about half way through I found out my friend can make ergonomic grips. So THAT's why he had it easier than I did! Ha ha ha ha!
palikkamaa
When I'm mining, I keep 1 stack of red tea/mineral water, 1 stack of coffee and 1 stack of beer. Regular drinks and coffee keeps boosted stamina regen on and when you run out of stamina, drink beer to instantly get full stamina.
FA_Q2
The sex rex perk is now viable. In 18 I rarely took a single point even being a sledge main because stamina was easy to manage in other ways. Now the perk is very high on my list of key perks. I hated the stamina change at first but it grew on me because it has made assigning perks a challenge. Many more of them are very viable now.
