D-Doors

Yah, you read it right, this tread is about d-doors, in other words, dutch doo... Hé, don't run away yet! Lemme talk first! darn...

 

 

Wel, for those still reading, dutch doors aren't what most would imagine. They are actually something awesome, and would add quite some fun to the gameplay.

 

 

 

For those not knowing what it is, here are a few pictures:

It took me a while to realize what the purpose of something like that would be, but that actually could be pretty nice. Open the top half, shoot some zombies, close the top half. Seems like a nice idea, probably would be hard to implement damage on a single object that has 2 parts occupying 2 different blocks.

 

A more logical idea that serves pretty much the same purpose would be some type of door with a small hatch that you can open and close to shoot the zombies without letting them in.

I'm hoping that eventually zombies would be able to climb in through broken windows and 1 block high gaps, so this wouldn't work as well if they can climb in through the top half. If they don't though, it shouldn't be too hard to implement, could have it made of 2 separate blocks, like hatches, just placeable like doors.

I would rather have double doors, two doors placed next to each others to get more field of fire and room to manoeuvre.

i proposed doors made out of short iron pipes, like this one

 

 

you could shoot trough the holes without opening the door.

 

The only defect of using a door like the one type you suggest is that it is made out of wood and i believe it can't resist an horde attack, by the way the sense is to use a door that make possible to see outside.

Surprisingly I have a lot of knowledge about Dutch doors because I build doors for a living. A dutch door is not noticeably weaker than a standard door. The top is secured to the bottom with iron hardware and usually has its own lock. The main failing point on a door is the same no matter what you build it out off.....Its the door lock. Unless you start installing locks at the top and bottom of the door that's what would fail first. So a Dutch door could be stronger because there would be 2 lock rails instead of just 1. I would test it out but I would get fired if I ran around kicking doors down.

Ever thought about adding a hatch above a normal door, or vice versa?

Hmmm... What about the ability to rotate a hatch to be placed vertical instead of horizontal? Like a pirate ship! Boom!
