Is there any quick way to deal with the safes in a post office?

I am pretty sure it´s the evil witch. It´s single zombies mostly. Ofc a wandering horde crosses my way once in a while, during raiding a POI. Can´t be the heat, i currently do bow/knife mostly (this rocks btw, i just had two of them dying side by side with the same animation due to bleeding out, nearly died to the next zombie due to laughing), only using guns in emergencies. And i loot. That´s it.

None of you have tried the breaching rounds for the shotgun! I will beat all of you into any safe every day of the week with those. Small safes take one round and large safes take 3. They are a little resource intensive as they take steel to make, but time is loot!

Rocket launcher only takes one round...

I already suggested to TFP to automate the lockpicks, because how they are now is as bad as having to keep pressing the mouse button with a pickaxe. Wait for break -- Press E for a second -- wait for break -- Press E for a second -- and so on and on.  Where is the advantage to a pick axe? If the lockpick breaks it should continue with the next one automatically until either the safe is open or you don't have any lockpicks anymore

This, this, this, x1000! This is how it should be.

Unless they rework the entire lockpicking system? Would be nice to actually be able to be good at it, rather than just solid RNG

Destroy the wall behind a wall safe, which typically has less HP than the safe itself.  Then the safe will crash into the ground and disintegrate, no matter how strong it was.  Problem solved!

...Wait, you wanted what was IN the safe?  Well, picky, picky, picky. ;)

Late to the thread, but was just about to say this exact thing. Was shocked to get to page 2 before the breaching rounds were mentioned - especially after someone said they were clearing POIs with a shotgun!

I'm running a brawler build and carrying an AK-47 for backup, but lockpicking ticked me off so bad I started carrying a shotgun purely for opening safes.

Honestly never occurred to me to use a rocket launcher although from an immersion perspective I can't help but think it would be serious overkill.
In-character, I would expect the results would be disappointing (ie: completely demolish the safe and its contents, or destroy the room without actually breaking the safe open).

As for the resource cost comparison - sure, 4 steel per breaching round is costly especially when you're using 3 rounds to get into a gun safe - but is that any worse than the gasoline/lead cost of a single rocket launcher round?

Less noise is the advantage. Let´s be happy it´s not a minigame tbh. For crafting them you need only level one of the lockpicking skill. Or all "The great Heist" books. (I think it´s the heist books, correct me if am wrong)

Is it just me, or do they nearly never break during the first 3 quarters of the time for everyone?

It's entirely random for me. Until my current playthrough I'd never spec'ed into the skill. Just didn't see the need. I'd collect more than I'd ever use, and it rarely took more than 3 to actually open a safe. Then in my current playthrough I went through 21 lockpicks on a single safe. That drove me nuts especially since that was all of the lockpicks I'd had at the time. Not sure why that safe was so stubborn but it did open when I beat it senseless with my stone axe...love how that works. Sometimes I feel like the caveman mindset really works for this game.
