Can't link steam?

I tried to link my steam account with this forum account, but when I try to, after I login over at steam, it tells me "It appears you already have a forum account linked." This is the only forum account I've ever registered here, and I've certainly never linked my steam account here before. What gives?

Nevermind. I didn't realize there was a final step because I didn't see the "Link accounts" button at the bottom right of the message box. This post can be deleted.

Ok, this can also happen if your profile is private. Just in case anyone comes here with a similar issue.

I have tried the official help me from a support ticket but that was useless, I already did all that! I have tried various things others have used in the past but they probably apply to different issues. Issue for me here is clearly windows 10. Something on it, or in it or the way it connects to some servers is causing massive problems. Clearly my isp, router all the rest is fine, or I couldn't write this.
