Horde zombies

After not playing for a month bc of holidays, I played horde night yesterday with a friend. Ive been playing for years, but always solo, this is my first coop game.

 

The horde night (14) was amazing, not only did we get tons of zombies, but their pathing was awesome. They came from several directions and almost surrounded the base, like they should, not like they did in a17. But even on a18, while it was improved and they spread a bit, they still didnt have such cool pathing surrounding my base in what I remembered from a18. I was very happy with how they behave in yesterdays horde.

 

Then today it hit me, they didnt have a much bettter pathing to surround our base, its just that they came from 2 different directions because we were 2 players. What a dissappointment. Well, it still was cool, but it wont be like this when I continue playing alone.

 

Moral of the story: Make zombies surround our bases again, it's much more fun. Why not just make them come from all directions instead of from 1?

Interesting. Our experience in co-op is that zombies will come from one "quadrant" no matter where we are standing (we in fact stand at opposite corners at the start, so we each have a junk turret active). As the horde progresses, it will spawn from different quadrants. So our voice chat is like this:

 

"Ready?"

"Yep."

<blood moon scream sound effect>

"Southeast!"

<I run to SE corner of base to join him and activate my turret on that side>

pew pew pew

"DEMOLISHER!"

...repeat for about 10 minutes...

 

"NORTH SIDE!"

<we run to north side>

pew pew pew

 

And so on throughout the night.

I play solo and have noticed them coming from different directions in A18. But I use a funnel design so it doesn't really matter. But as I watch them come in from the surrounding areas they come from different directions and I'm all by myself.

It is entirely possible that we only notice the zombies first in one area and fight them meanwhile another part of the horde is starting in on the other side of the base. And then we finally notice them and think they just spawned there right before. The downside of having a large-footprint base to defend.

 

After a couple of hordes in our new pit trap, I wanna try a funnel design. I have no clue how to build one effectively. Just traps traps traps traps except for this 2- or 3-block corridor leading to the base/tower wall?

 

I wish there was like some type of video repository where people could show different base designs and how to build them. Someone should invent that. It would be like TV, but for you (the global "you"). They could call it YouTV even.
