Pitfall Base

Hello,

Havent played since A16 and I had a pitfall base back then. My friend and I made one in the latest version and the blood moon horde does not want to drop into it. Im at the bottom of the map over 60 blocks down and they have either just dug down or went down into my entry hole when I have gone up to see the situation.

Is there a max distance before they decide to fall in?

I added ladders on the inside at the top. I have 3 rows, do I need more?

Any tips to get them to fall in?

Any help or ideas or if anyone can point me in the correct direction id appreciate it. Id hate for the work I did to be in vain.

Disclaimer: I have not attempted to find the information on these forums and just created an account. I could not find information on google in regards to this.

There was a post in another thread recently (about Demolishers IIRC) from someone who had a pitfall trap for horde night. Dug down to bedrock with reinforced concrete walls and a catwalk several blocks up around the rim (out of Demo blast range I assume).

I am in the process of trying to duplicate that general idea, but your post raises a possible complication. I can't answer your question, but I'm interested to hear the answer from someone who's tried pits in A18. My only suggestion, if they are digging to try to get to you, is to perhaps build an apron at the surface around your pit? So go out, say 5 or 10 blocks from the edge and replace the soil with concrete. Idea being, zombies will not see digging as a valid pathway to you (in or near the bottom of your pit?) and will go over the edge.

I'm keen to hear what others say. My 7x7 pit is only 6 blocks deep so far so I can quit it without too much waste. It was a coal vein to start with so it's not a total loss...

I have an apron. They still dug in the dirt.

You usually need some wedges or something to trick them into falling in a deep hole.

I forgot about the wedges. I guess I should. I have ladders but no wedges. Guess I can change it to make the wedges lead to the ladders.
