Need some help with the server i am helping run. Got some bugs that need ironing.

So i got a long list of things i need to get addressed to try and help get my server running properly again. Ill try and give you guys as much context as possible.

 

Recently (As in the last 3 weeks.) We wiped our server and started over, We were on day 500. we were originally using an in game generated map prior to the wipe. Now we are using an 8k nitrogen map. (For those of you who don't know nitrogen is a program that gives you much more control over map generation.) The map settings were maxxed across the board, We have the full set of PoIs spawning on the server. (Caves, Skyscrapers, ect.) This map takes a massive amount of ram to run server side. (Not a problem we are doing fine for the most part.) More than 50% of the map is metropolitian, roughly 30% town based. The remaining 20% is a mix of wilderness and redneck poi locations.

We are using Allocs on the server By the way.

 

We have done some XML Editing, (We 2xed the damage of most melee weapons excluding baseball bat sledge and stun baton.) We added the blessed metal mod to the drop list and enable the crafting recipe as well as the blueprint drop.

We have some people complaining of serious lag issues, Not everyone though. Some people are randomly falling through the map for some reason. A few cases of players dying and losing their gear from falling through the map oddly.

We've had a few cases where zombies walk through solid walls, Doors and other things. Sometimes they aggro other times they keep shambling through buildings like they aren't even there even past players. Some players complain that their vehicles are teleporting when they get off them. I asked them if they were coming to a full stop before exiting ride mode and they said yes so i am not sure what is causing this.

 

Occasionally people will log on and some textures are replaced with what appeared to be tiled marble blocks not sure what is causing that but its easily fixed by relogging still would like to know what is causing it.

 

Occasionally people (Normally those flying gyros.) Complain about invisible walls that cause them to crash, Lose control of their Gyro and plummet down to the ground.

 

Another problem we are experiencing is that quite frequently as of late, the server is randomly crashing which is a huge problem. Prior to the wipe we never had this issue the server had a 99% up time without needing restarts.

 

Also we have had some issues with Allocs where their commands (Primarily resetunclaimedregions.) Don't function properly. We have had a case where some unclaimed areas aren't even touched and some claimed areas so not sure what is causing this.

 

Also oddly we have had some trouble with auto reloads. Not sure what thats about either

 

Anyone have any information that might be able to lend us a hand in ironing these bugs out?

I'm having a lot of the same issues on my server as well. The map is also gen by nitrogen.

I think the complaints you get about driving in invisible walls is not that at all.

Its a bug I'm trying to repro in order to report and im very close.

 

While driving in a vehicle the next chunk never loads in and if u drive in it you freeze in place and cannot drive forward or backwards. if you stop right before you drive in the next chunk that is not loaded and get off the vehicle it'll load right in. you can then get back in the vehicle and drive without the freeze happening (invisible wall).

 

P.S. I'm still testing that crap out of it but one theory I have is viewing distance has something to do with it. I'm hoping that reducing view distance will reduce the amount of time this bug occurs. again...not sure still testing.

 

EDIT: also while helping one of the players on my server out with the vehicle vanishing bug....he ended up dieing right in front of me and his bag vanished but it still showed on his radar which I saw when he offered to show me the stream. lots of issues with dedicated server...not sure if it is or is not linked with nitrogen though.

Wow this forum sure is slacking, we got people talking about redneck poi locations, people using communist avatars. Would say good job on the free speech part if..it was consistent on both sides of the isle..

 

Redneck poi locations is what they are called in nitrogen. Maybe you should not be so fast to judge. :)

I guess that does explain why the op used it but it doesn't change that fact that it's a racial slur nor does that explain why communist potatoes are running rampant on this forum. If I were to use the exact same avatar with a swastika on it all hell would break loose. I'm not saying that's something I agree with but I will say seeing the communist symbol being accepted as normal and okay makes my blood boil but I digress. Carry on.

If memory serves its a 18.1 (We don't use experimental builds.)

 

It really sounds like a sort of desync issue. I know the invisible walls and terrain-walls that vanish happens when a server has a hardware lag on it, goes away when it picks back up. As to what causes it idk lol. Perhaps look into lag on the server side. My Nitrogen map kinda broke once with the marble wall thing you spoke of, it went away after 2 restarts, but I noticed the... underground under the chunk I was basing in had generated a false map of sorts way at bedrock (not mined out, just if you noclip under it you can see it, ground, roads, etc. just no grass/trees/etc.).

 

Super weird, and I did notice an extra 2gb of memory being used in game through the console. Maybe that has something to do with the aforementioned weirdness.

I'll take a look but we were using an industrial grade server to run the server, So i am not sure we had any real lag server side.
