Shotgun's destructive power

I'm starting to dislike the shear destructive power of the shotgun. I have 5/5 in shotguns but have yet to complete all the shotgun magazines for that bonus. I go in to a POI to start clearing it and blast a few zombies that are coming towards me. I look past them to see that I have blown out a wall and part of the floor as well. This is with me using regular shells so I would hate to see the destructive capabilities of the breaching rounds. I really think that the block damage of regular shells should be scaled back quite a bit.

Most POIs are made out of wood on the inside. That doesn't have a lot of HP. If you shoot at concrete or steel with a shotgun there will be hardly any damage.

EDIT: I took a look at the XML files and apparently shotgun ammo does more damage to wood that to other materials.

Try it with 5/5 rifles and 5/5 piercing perk with AP ammo.

You don't even have to miss...I can cleanly hit a zombie in front of me, and as it slumps down dead notice a nice new hole in the wall behind it.

I've even, a couple times (through sheer dumb luck), killed a zombie, damaged the wall behind it, and when I entered the room with that shared, damaged wall, came across a dead zombie that I'd apparently hit and killed with that same one shot.

The penetrator perk and AP bullets can wreck havoc with any gun. I loaded my AK with AP bullets at the military base that has that small bunker on the left near the entrance. I busted out the pallets blocking the secret entrance and took the tunnel to the main loot room. As expected, the armored soldier stood up and I blasted him, and the bullets proceeded through him and busted out the counter top behind. The main loot dropped to ground and turned to scrap metal. ... Then my allergies acted up and my eyes watered a little. Those were not tears, I swear!
