Vanishing/resetting base problem - need help

OK, I'm going insane here because I have never had this problem until a18. As you may have gathered from the title, my bases have been vanishing on every single map I've started in a18 and I'm losing the will to play it :upset:

No matter if it's a POI base, or I've built it from scratch, parts of it just vanish (my bases) and get replaced by a random ore rock, tree stump or a birds nest, or reset (POI bases). Also, POI bases were not reset by a quest (maybe they were though if the game resets them by just appearing on the traders list, but I didn't investigate that).

If it was resetting some unimportant part of the base, like a farm, or even anything other than the most important things (storage and forges) I'd learn to live with it somehow, but losing EVERYTHING just kills me.

To be clear, I am running with mods (SMX, donovans less grind, megastacks, more and longer lootbags, also with RELXIX more traders and trader advertisment).

Anyway, any and all help would be appreciated.

The only issue with world stability I've experienced this far has been with the latest patch, it spawned a bunch of new trees in my world, they're at 1 hp (probably 0, but shows as 1) and give the harvest bonus on kill..

Haven't noticed anything resetting or anything, longest game has gone on since somewhere in 18(.0) exps.

I wonder if the devs know how to reproduce that. I might know of a way because I was able to make that happen back in A17.3 when I ran a server and editing the biom.xml file if I remember correctly.

I haven't even tried, as I can't imagine it would reproduce in a within-patch world, in a "legit" way. Just something got changed in the tree generation in a patch and my save doesn't have hit point info for the new ones. Just mentioned as the only oddity I've seen in a vanilla game :)

This happening following a patch would fit exactly with how to repro it. nice.

EDIT: I'm trying to remember exactly how I used to do this, I'll try later, bit I would edit bioms.xml.

Change up....(I'm really stoned)....something with how the trees spawned in all the bioms. I would then restart the server and there would be some trees that were new and only had 1hp... or maybe they all did...gotta test.

So maybe during whatever patch, the biom.xml file was edited by the devs and maybe it had to do with the trees and thus created this bug. And if a player did not start a fresh game and kept an old save then it would produce it.

RELXIX more traders and trader advertisment).

Funny you mention this one, because I'm using a variant of the Trader Advertisements, called ReQuests (ReQuests) and I've been getting constant region wipes and crashes after 6 solid hours of fun. I would clear maybe 10 buried supplies quests, then as I come back to my base my screen throws errors and I lose half my game. Particularly my forge and campfire.

I'm experimenting with a world without RELXIX's two to see if it needs updating. On my first crash, I lost my entire base, but on my second crash I lost most of my base (no region reset) except for a strip of my wall. My third crash was a region reset.

Update: I went and re-installed 7D2D, loaded up my NITROGEN map (did not scrub gamedata) and I got a different error entirely with the same idea; 1 bedroll, 1 chest, 1 LCB and a stack (30k) of coal; a stack that was previously a "Bundle of Coal". It did WRN and ERR to remove all of the items after travelling away 500m and coming back.

I'll go back to Pregen maps or let the RWG work instead of using Nitrogen for the time being.

my bases have been vanishing on every single map I've started in a18...

May it be - reasoning from the time of writing - that your game just updated to "18.2 b8"?

In my case, only specific parts of the world became - halfways - reinstanciated. Namely trees catched my eyes. But i could well imagine that there is something in the background of that upgrade that resets arbitrary elements, including all the things you described. I wouldn't be surprised if those cases accumulate in the next days.

Ups:

The only issue with world stability I've experienced this far has been with the latest patch, it spawned a bunch of new trees in my world, they're at 1 hp (probably 0, but shows as 1) and give the harvest bonus on kill..

Exactly THAT.

Staying on the same map through experimental versions often creates problems like these, but I did not bring that up because OP says that this has happened many times in A18 after starting fresh maps. This leads me to believe that at least one of the outdated mods is causing the problem-- not only because outdated mods can also often cause similar problems, but because this is the common factor among the games OP started.

Haven't noticed anything resetting or anything, longest game has gone on since somewhere in 18(.0) exps.

Yeh this is one that hit me. Figure it's just an experimental thing.

But either OP you have a dying HDD or one or more of the mods is causing it. Never seen a base/poi wipe/reset error on my ♥♥♥♥ty laptop, ever lol.

In my experience this is connected to overrunning forges. Have happened multiple times for me single-player multi-player doesn't matter.

Lowering max amount of resources forge can hold to 20k fixed this issue for me. Before that I used to have multiple "forge based resource production" bases in remote areas, if one reset i lost only what was there.

I haven't done it recently but this could have been reproduced quite consistently:

- order max of anything from forge

- have it still smelting for that items you ordered

- cancel order after a while so max resource units in forge goes past 30k

- leave base, come back later

- chunk reset ....

Lost enormous amount of work this way few times. 200h+ castles reduced to ruble.... because forge in the middle decided to reset :).

Hope this helps to narrow it down.

Nope, happened since a18 dropped and continued onward. Maybe I should just go vanilla for a while and see what, if anything, happens.

Well, I sincerely hope that my HDD is not dying :upset:

Now That sounds plausible, and since I was saying it hasn't happened to me, well, I have never overfilled my forges either.. I NEED my stuff.. :)

This sounds a lot like the bug I reported in the 18.0b155 bug report thread - while returning to the base, when it was supposed to appear the console window would flash up with a couple of red lines, the terrain the base was on would reset back to 'as generated', and everything that had been on it vanished. I lost half of a few bases this way, half the base vanished but the other half was on a chunk that loaded ok and was fine. The official answer I got was that it was probably due to the mods I was using, then in the same thread someone reported the same problem but they weren't using any mods, then 18.1b6 went stable and that thread was locked.

So in the b6 bug report thread I asked about it again and was told that as unmodded games were also experiencing it then it did seem to be a problem and the devs were looking into it and would appreciate logs from anyone else not running mods who had the problem.

Since then I haven't seen any more about it, it's happened a couple more times without the console window appearing, I opted out of the experimental so I'm now (I think) on 18.1b8 and it seems to have settled down. If you want to read up it's on the last (maybe 2nd to last) page of the b155 thread, and at the start of the b6 thread.

Also, because I got fed up with the game stealing my ♥♥♥♥ so I had to start over (it was never the side of the base with storage and benches that survived!) I learned how to use the creative side of things :)

Thank you, I'm going to try that, that does sound familiar !

Just to make sure I've got it right -

- the amount of each resources showing as being in the forge is actually the *available* amount, and

- when you tell the forge to craft something it removes resources from its available amount but they are still counted in the total for that resource, and if you cancel the crafting they are still counted as they are still in the forge but don't reappear in the available amount, and

- when the available amount of a resource in the forge PLUS any of that resource left over from cancelled crafting exceeds the forge limit the forge basically explodes

that about right ?

Thanks :)

oh and could you also fix it by *raising* the max amount of resources the forge can handle - surely lowering it just means the problem will happen sooner ?

hi guys. i have just experienced the exact same problem. do i understand correctly that the problem is irreversible and the map is ♥♥♥♥ed up for good? because i have lost everything, all equipment and all stashes. does that mean 170 hours of gametime flushed down the toilet?

If you didn't make backups, yep.

You have to remember, you are playing a game that is still in Alpha development. It's not finished, and occasional bugs are to be expected. If that bug leads to a loss of data or progress, you can always restore from a recent backup.

Why would you get 170 hours in and not make sure you have a backup?
