Can no longer start 7D client from console A18.1

Was something done in A18.1 so that we can not start the 7D client from the console? With A17, I did this all the time and it worked great. Now, with A18, even with Steam running it complains:

 

Could not fully initialize Steam:

The Steam client is not running or no connection is possible.

 

I've been doing this for a long time. Now with A18.1, this no longer works.

 

Slackware current, 64 bit. 32GB ram. Xfce.

AHAHA SOLVED!

 

For some reason, the 7D client does not come with the file steam_appid.txt. I created the file, put the correct steam appid in it, and now it works.

 

So for those trying to run 7D from the console and it's not working, see if the file steam_appid.txt is in the game directory.
