7 Days of the Past

Who here remembers playing back in the day when 7 Days had a crafting grind kind of like Minecraft does? I don't remember which Alpha version it was, I've been playing this game for a while now lol, but so much has changed with the game over the years. Different things have come and gone. What are some of the the things that you remember from past builds? Anyone remember the giant hornets we used to have to deal with?

I started playing in A14 and I remember collecting wood, stone, and grass that first day so I would craft stone axes all through the night in a house surrounded by chests!

I understand why they removed the mechanic that required you to craft thousands of items to increase your skill but it was realistic in that you had to actually do something to get better at it.

Yes, and I took all their honeycombs for my house.

If you are wanting more zombies in the streets, they are merely a setting in an XML away. On our server, you can't stop without having 10-15 zombies heading your way no matter where you're at.

Yeah but the caveat is that you actually spawn more zombies everywhere which throws off the balance of the game, and is of little fun and quite immersion breaking when you get constantly annoyed in the middle of nowhere.

It was easier to wait and build 8 forges, fill the outputs with junk (it wouldnt complete until you opened the forge) and craft anvils over and over. You could cap tool smithing in an hour or two from 1-100. 8 forges was the magic number, you only had to wait a few seconds in between crafting rounds.

1. First week night vision goggles. I miss nvg for my stealth build. Without it stealth just doesn't work and pretty much everything is aggro'd even with maxed out From the Shadows perk.

It's still in the game but I've 3 games that's reached day 50 and still no drop. With the new progression to bows, which is fun imo, Agility is a glass cannon for much of the early game. It's a tough tree to start with.

2. We used to be able to pick n mix which weapon combos to specialize in. Now weapons are locked into attributes, massive restriction for me.

3. LBD. Great immersion for me to keep training what I wanted to specialize in. Spammers ruined it by rushing every skill. Suggestions of diminishing returns might've fixed the issue but devs decided against it. Rip brother you are sorely missed.

I miss finding a cave and exploring these elaborate systems with underground lakes and tunnels criss crossing...making a trap at the entrance.

Or dog packs in day two.

Finding a library back in the earlier days was a gold mine!!!

Miss when putting a lot of work into massive concrete walls made sense. Enclosing a small community of people. Now it seems like an inferior way to play.

I miss seeing an ocean of water sometimes

Remembering when bioms were all separated by rivers?

Miss alpha 10.4...

Gore blocks! All on top of my wood spikes to under the lip of my iron bars...

I remember a very specific thing.

There was a capitol building right at the center of Gravetown (Wasteland City in Navezgane) that had a very particular "secret" hiding place right below the rooftop. Whether this hiding place was intentionally designed to be the way it was, or just a random coincidence, I don't know (probably the latter, which somehow makes it even more special).

Anyways, it was an absolutely wonderful place for a base, since it was elevated and it had plenty of space for all your crafting stations and storage boxes. I haven't really checked, but as of A18, I think that whole building in itself has been completely remodeled or outright removed.

I've only seen one other group of players discover and use that hiding place. You can check it out in the following video, minute 22:40.

Nitpick: Spam-crafting was "fixed" (i.e. no longer worked) long before LBD was removed from the game.

Thanks for the video link. That takes me back. Completely forgot about that building. The game has come along way. 😎

Side note, it's interesting to see what the junk yard looked like back then...😁

What do they do with all the old buildings? Are they just testing the new ones don't have bugs then bring back the old ones into the game or are they gone forever?

Be a shame if they were just scrapped.

Not just the spam-crafting I think devs just wanted to target spamming skills in general:

- sit on cactus with full armor and a ton of bandages upgrading your armor and healing skills,

- running up and down ladders to improve agility iirc,

- freeze in snow biome so u could constantly eat, can't remember what skill that improved but yeah it kinda killed lbd.

I just felt immersed on improving/specializing in my weapon skills for that play through. I remember trying out blades for the first time and I constantly tried to use it in situations where I'd usually just pull out a firearm. I mean true to life how do we get good at anything, repetition. So in that sense I was totally immersed in my character building.

Some POIs are probably scrapped, as they don't bring much to the game anymore considering all the new dungeon style buildings there are now. Big buildings such as the capitol are probably not scrapped, but completely replaced with new versions that fit the new structure and/or dungeon style of the new POIs.
