Alpha 18 feedback and balancing thread

Thanks. I don't think that single guaranteed feather means that one could say, "they over compensated for the lack of feathers in previous exp builds".

I'm sticking with my original thoughts... some people are just bad at finding feathers.

I think the reduced feathers in the previous exp builds was just about right, however, I'm always short on eggs now. Not even making bacon & eggs at all, saving them for pie, I'm that short on 'em. Haven't found the pie recipe yet, either, but that's just RNG messing with me. I do have around 3-4 stacks of feathers, but only a few dozen eggs, after about 3 weeks in my current world.

Since Twigg said that was the intended design, I'll post this here - Mining/firefighter helmets should definitely have light w/o mods. There is little point at getting a mining/ff helmet when you get a mod which you can install at any helmet.

Doesn't this make more sense for a smoother progression?

Torch - got to switch.

Flashlight - better light, still got to switch.

Mining/ff helmet - equipped light, but on a mediocre helmet.

Helmet light mod - equpped light, on any helmet you want.

Good question. Animal/Zombie blood harvesting confirmed!!!!!

I never used the blood draw kit until recently in A18 as I was just really curious what it did.

I think I saw a drinking animation and a blood bag appeared haha.

I then I think got a skull icon on screen and something about feeling not good.

Good ridden I say wasn’t useful at all. Blood bags should be found easily in hospitals, ideal place for such things.

Hi !

I'm playing since A6 and I have now about 1500 hours on this awesome game.

I really LOVE this A18.

...But there is 3 things that I HATE.

First thing :

Why the hell our own cooking preparations can make us sick ?!

Why would I want to go hunting, fetch eggs, plant plantations, spend points on Master Chef and spend a lot of my precious time if it can make me sick, when I find a lot of cans while looting?

Second thing :

Not new on A18, it came with A17 or A16, I don't remember.

When I am aiming with a firearm (= using iron sight, red dot or any scope), why the hell is my crossair stays ?! Why the hell do I have to wait some time right-clicked to be accurate ? Did you ever played any other First Person Shooter ? I'm sur you did, but do it again. I don't expect a feeling like Apex, Call of Duty and so on, but there is still a minimum !

I have understood that it's a feature mainly added for the perk system. If I want to be more accurate, I spend more skill points. OK, but when you play it makes no sense. If you want something for skill tree, maybe replace this ugly aiming-crossair by a recoil control ? A true recoil control, that strongly raises the sight at the beginning, and less and less when you spend points. Or something like that.

Third thing :

Not new on A18, it came with A17.

Please let us adjust our Field of View! I know you disable it for performance improvements... But the default FOV makes me sick.

Maybe add a big warning message when the player change the FOV if you want... But let us do it !

I am obliged to type the "sg OptionsFieldOfViewNew 100" command every time I launch the game... So boring.

I know this post is salty, and I'm sorry, I love this game, but these things really bother me :(

Why are blood draw kits gone!? Because some people didn't use them? I thought this game was moving towards supporting various playstyles. Should they remove bicycles because I personally don't use them?

Blood draw kits were an interesting aspect of this game. If the blood debuff was giving the game trouble, just go back to making it do straight damage. Geez, you could make a whole game just from the perfectly serviceable features that have been cut from this one.

Alpha 18 is a very welcome improvement over Alpha 17. Lots of great changes. However I really agrre with these two. I can't see any reasonable justifications or benefits of these changes.

I'm sure you've heard it a lot , but A18 requires some serious patching in regards to graphics and lag. Specifically the game has huge in-game spikes (especially when playing multiplayer leading to random kicks) and temporarily freezes my computer every 10 minutes of gameplay time.

The game also seems to freeze and lag my computer after playing for about an hour.

Sometimes exiting the game shows it's still running on steam.

Computer specs are:

-Gtx 1050ti

-Intel 8300H

-8 gb ram

-128 gb SSD (with extra free storage).

I have about 3 gb of storage left on my ssd so I'll try to move it on a bigger hdd and see if there's a performance difference. Maybe the reason the game lags so much is because 8 gb of ram are not enough to run it (even though it should) and it ends up using storage as a temporary alternative.

8 gigs of ram and a full HD aren't gonna do you any favors in 7dtd.

Is this right :

Repair kits are being sold at 372

Yet you can buy Duct Tape at 50 and Forged iron at 24

Does that not defunct buying Repair Kits in the first place ?

Gtx 1050ti graphics card. you have wont do much for your pc. I had one and didn't do me any good. Also i looked up that a 8g ram could cause slight issues. Although i dont know what ssd is expected for 7 days. I built a new pc

RTX 2060 VENTUS 6G

16GB ram

480Gb m.2 SSD

3.9Ghz 6 core liquid CPU cooler

I do recommend liquid cooling fans i have 6 in my pc.

im running 7 days on ultra graphics on 50 to 80 fps. But yes 7 days to die needs a powerful pc its stupid i know how you feel.

WHat you really should do is move your not-used-often files over to your HDD that's clogging up your space. Although SSD vs HDD just really bellows down to loading speed, having a full drive isn't good for overall performance (for general use and gaming both). Clean your drives!

One thing you didn't mention is your settings. You're filling your ram/vram up, causing it to struggle (notably when you close it it seems it's taking a while to free your ram up). Lower your textures, turn down/off shadows, lower resolution, (antistrophic) filtering (filtering in the settings) gfx af 0, gfx dt 0 help too. Game runs half-decent on my laptop. I have to go potato mode, but it's what I have to do to play some here and there and I don't mind. If I desire to run at 4k on Ultra settings, I'll build an overpowered PC lol.

Pump shotgun feels plenty powerful to me, Not so keen on double-barrel. The double-tap feels like the second shot always misses (like it's fired straight up, instead of forwards) and the fact that they can't use many mods is annoying. I guess the constant need to reload is a way to balance how common these shotguns and the shotgun shells are, even in the early-game.

I guess an auto-shotgun should probably be in the works as the shotgun's equivalent of the ak's m60 though.

When I first saw the 'double barrel shotgun' idea, I was hoping for a full-length one, not a sawn-off.

We already have a sawn-off mod, which I guess is irreverent now.

Oh, and it's easy to forget, but the shotgun already had a 'cheap and shoddy' variant in the blunderbuss, which is a really fun idea and uses ammo that doesn't need a forge to craft, but was made near totally irreverent by the double-barrel.

Personally, I'd remove the double-barrel, keep the blunderbuss as the 'stone' tier equivalent. Have the pump be the 'iron' tier version, then a combat/auto shotgun as the 'steel' tier.

Or just enable more useful mods/ammo types for each.

Slugs are real neat, but not worth making most of the time. Too much gunpowder for a single shot.

Also, pump-shotgun schematics should be easier to get. Maybe lvl 4/5 of the perk or something? I've played two games in A18 and in both I had shotgun turrets before I had a real shotgun.

Maybe all weapons should unlock their better variant at the final level of the perk?

The blueprints are neat, but gaining the ability to make steel knuckles while having no points in that tree is kind of useless. There should be a way to move towards getting the thing you want, without having to rely on random drops.

Oh, another rifle would be nice too. Hunting rifle is fun while you're out and about, but basically useless on horde-night, due to it's terrible rate of fire. Marksman Rifle is better because it holds five rounds, but... it's still not great for crowds, and the damage is pretty much the same.

It's a big improvement since the rate of fire went way up, and it hardly needs more damage, but it feels like this set of guns needs a third member. Something to cover the gap that the other two lack... crowd-control.

Maybe something a little less powerful, but with a proper magazine size? The equivalent of a semi-auto AK, maybe?

Make it hit less hard than the Marksman, but hold two or three times as much ammunition, so you can deal with crowds.

Or maybe have installing the Semi-Auto trigger group switch the AK over to benefiting from the Rifles Perks? So you can invest in perception and still use an AK, so long as you sacrifice the ability to go full-auto.

As of now, the trigger groups are kind of useless. Burst-fire is always a waste of ammo, semi-auto can be done even with an m60 just by tapping once, and the full-auto trigger group doesn't actually make it fire any faster than just clicking repeatedly.

Basically, you give up a mod slot for nothing that you can't get just by pressing the fire button in a specific way. Putting full-auto on a pistol is barely noticeable.

Might be neater to just remove the trigger groups and add a semi-auto combat rifle with a 10/15 round mag for the perception tree though.

Or hell, maybe even a rifle that uses 9mm. That could be interesting as a cheap variant that has more range than a pistol, without doing that much more damage. Take a big dip on damage in exchange for having cheaper ammo and a bigger mag.

Oh, and unrelated, for melee weapons I'd like definitive list of what qualifies as a light, medium and heavy weapon. 'Bladed' too, for that matter.

Daggers and fists are light? Clubs, light or medium? Heavy is sledgehammers, obviously, but is that it? The fact that there's a whole 'heavy' weapon category rather than just the 'sledgehammer' category hints that there's more than just that in this tree.

As for medium, is that just tools like the Axe and Pick? Is a shovel a medium weapon? Is a wrench?

Figuring out which perks effect which skills can be tricky.

Steel Tier fists benefit from Huntsman, iron do not.

Do the steel-tier (the bladed ones) benefit from the knife/bleeding skills too?

Does the Javelin? It's clearly a bladed weapon. Can you harvest with it? Does flurry of blows make it stab faster?

TLDR: Perk clarity, renewed purpose for the Blunderbuss, and maybe a semi-auto rifle with a decent magazine size.
