Character transfer dedicated server issue

I posted this in the general section, but it should probably be here... Playing b155 and we wanted to try a different seed but keep our characters. I did this successfully in a17 but not sure if I am doing it correctly. If I remember, it was just copy the .ttp and .map files from the /saves/RWGname/servername/player folder to the new one correct? I copied the files over, but when I log on, it starts my character from scratch.
