Why not just make a legendary item level? Let us craft and buy level 6 items back just add this new legendary item level instead that can only be found looting. It has a star instead number, double durability of level 6 and golden color.

I just read this sentence in reddit and I kind of agree:

 

God I hate this Q6 items are "legendary" now. Like come on, I love these devs and I will of course support them but like if you're going to try to do legendary then make actual legendary items...

 

Legendary items sounded like an aswesome feature. But instead of making cool legendary items, just calling the things we always had legendary and reduce the way to get them is pretty cheap and a wasted opportunity to do something cool

 

Legendary items should be... a pickaxe that has a 5% chance to instantly finsish the block, or a sniper with triple magazine size, or a m60 with almost no reload speed, or a hammer that uses 1 less material for upgrading...

Nice as always.

 

No complex, thank you. Just having the best and hardest to get items have some cool effect is more fun than just another quality level same as the 5 before.

AFAIK we don't have nor did we ever have legendary weapons in 7DTD.

 

QL6 is not that special.

 

You may want to tell Joel that

 

Purples are ledendaries, so we don't want people crafting legendaries. We let the craft up to blue and enabled random stats on t2 and 3 crafting, so that is a LOT of love since 18's launch.

So, the feature "legendaries", which sounds awesome and something almost everybody would be totally excited to get in any game, just means adding a few restrictions to what we already had.

 

It's quite sad.

 

Well, he did clarify later new effects will be added to Q6 items. Just not in yet.

Not for a new player. Sometimes following a game in development can be frustrating, but only the end result matters ;)

It all seems like a huge missed opportunity to me.

 

Instead of all the monkeying around with Q6 items, why not just expand the XMLs to include a Q7 "legendary" item, and have it only found in special safes/boxes/etc that are located in L4/L5 quests locations?

 

Bam: Now a reason to do L4/L5 quests, end-game legendary gear to go hunting for, and you don't mess up the 1-quality level per perk level thing we have going.

The game has been balanced around 6 quality tiers of items. It's probably a lot easier to reclassify Q6 as Legendary than it would be to add and balance a Q7 tier.

 

That would be my guess, anyway.

Which is why Q6 should be craftable/buyable/normal, and Q7 would be rare, unique, and worth spending ~2 hours of clearing out a L4/L5 POI for the chance to get one.

But, like I said, they'd have to balance that hypothetical Q7 tier with the rest of the game. Doesn't matter how rare it is... if its in the game it needs to be balanced.

Functionally this has zero difference than doing what they did and making Q6 a legendary tier that has some special effects. Like Kalen said, it would only mean that balancing would be harder if another tier was added.

 

 

The only reason at all that you seem to have an objection to this rather than making Q6 legendary is that we had access and crafting ability for Q6 in the past. Considering this is alpha, what features we had is not really relevant. The same goal is achieved in both ways but one requires less work - I think the path there is really clear.

At the moment legendary items are planned but still not in the game, so Q6 is temporarily dubbed legendary to explain it isn't craftable.

 

When legendary items are implemented the capriciousness of the developers might make

 

a) legendaries have quality 6 among normal quality 6 weapons

b) introduce a quality 7 for legendaries

c) remove normal quality 6 weapons and have quality 6 reserved for legendaries.

d) have legendaries show no quality at all

 

or

 

e) nothing of above just to spite you. :cocksure:

 

In cases b and d quality 6 might be opened to crafting once legendaries are in or it might not.

When I want Q7 to be "legendary", I don't actually care if it has unique effects or whatever. I think it shouldn't. Just make them better than Q6 and make them only lootable from L4/L5 POIs.
