rtuite
We have a tower design we've used since A17 experimental that we rather like. Basically, it uses a drawbridge to prevent pathing through our base entrance. However, every time we try to place the drawbridge it collapses. Half the time it takes a bunch of the blocks we snap it to with it. It is supported on both ends with at least two blocks, and no more than one block between the sides of the drawbridge and 2x2 pillars to the ground. I've had minor issues in A17 with the drawbridge collapsing, but after I put a row of blocks under the row it snaps to, it's fine. Not in A18. Did they change something with the structure requirements with the drawbridge or is there somthing broken?
rtuite
I'm guessing by the deafening silence that I'm either the only one who has tried to use a drawbridge (not the powered one) since A18 or it's not something that anyone esle has experiencd. Beelzybub
It looks like placement targeting was improved in the latest build. (149) Maybe that is the issue your were having?
Gazz
The drawbridge is a "metal" multiblock with the weight of 210 metal blocks. My guess is that you tried to glue it to the outside of a wall... with the obvious consequence. =) Putting it on top of a line of blocks has already worked before. I have now reduced it's mass enough to be glued to the outside of a row of metal blocks. Targeting this big ol' thing will always be tricky. I suggest some wood frames to box it into the right position for placement...

Then place bridge on supports not the building itself. Rotate as needed to make it look like its attached to building. we tried to even concrete blocks and this was only way to keep it from breaking our building. uRsOuL
Sigh, I have just had 2 collapse on me.......pretty gutted about it....lotta materials to waste on day 55. it should not be able to be placed if its not going to work IMO, and same as what op said, I used to build like this before A18. Still unsure why it wont work, 4 cement pillars 3 high 5 wide, 5x5 cement blocks all around then on edge I want bridge 5x cement ramps upside down, bridge on top of those ramps. first time it collapsed, I thought it was because the cement hadn't dried.... so took a whole day to get parts again, and did same thing, but waited for cement to dry........not happy Jan
Thundy
Upgrade the cement blocks to metal before you attach it. The horizontal support of cement blocks might not be high enough for the way you're attaching it. Wet concrete and dry both have the same horizontal support I think (120), as does reinforced. It isn't ill you hit metal it goes up to 300.
